Ideas for next vr headset (not glasses)

Thinking of some ideas for Metas next vr headset, if they plan on making one. Not the glasses, heard their field of view is way too small. Something like a Quest 3.

Maybe the screens could be good quality screens, but not too expensive. I dont think super expensive screens are a good idea when slightly cheaper screens are just as good. And no OLED, those have burn in.

Instead of a built in battery, there could be a tiny 15 minute backup battery, and the main battery could be a external battery that we can switch out with another battery. Like battery packs, but those are the main battery, the built in battery is just a back up. The main battery would be a battery that we can quickly remove and switch when it dies to another battery, or keep it attached and be plugged into a wall.

I heard the default Quest 3 head strap and face pad is so bad that most people end up buying other head straps and face pads. So why not Meta just sell the headset with no head strap or face pad, and let third party developers make head straps and face pads?

Sell the new vr headset with just the headset, no head strap, no face pad, no battery, nothing. Just the headset. And let third party companies make head straps, face pads, batteries, etc, that people can buy and attach to make their headset usable. Meta / Facebook will just focus on the main stuff thats necessary for it to work, like the screens, the operating system, etc. Third parties can make the rest of the stuff thats needed to actually use the headset comfortably, like batteries, face pads, head straps, etc.

And hopefully hire some human body professionals to help design the headset to be comfortable. Like a doctor of some sort, or something.

The VR Headset could come as a PCVR headset by default with no ability to play vr games standalone or by itself, meaning it requires a computer. But there could be a optional thing we can buy that attaches to the vr headset to make it able to run vr games by itself, like standalone, which is how the Quest 3 currently is.

Dont know if this is possible, but hopefully the next vr headset can also come in multiple screen resolution options that can be switched and changed easily. Have a computer that can run 4K resolution vr games? Put in the 4K screen.
Want to play on 1920 x 1080 screen resolution in VR? Put in the 1920 x 1080 screen. Less load on GPU too.

Maybe every part can be like a gaming desktop where its optional, and you can take it out and put a better one in, like the headstrap and face pad, but the entire vr headset, as much as possible. Some things might not be able to be changed and will be built-in and unable to be changed, but most things could be left out, kept, or replaced and upgraded with something better. Or something worse.

Some good ideas there. One positive though about burn in on OLED, it only affects static images so if you're playing games in a constantly changing environment, it isn't such a big issue. For example PSVR, Apple Vision Pro,, Samsung XR, Big Screen Beyond use them. A friend of mine has an older Vive for years and there's no burn in. Mostly affects phones that have the static date and other icons across the top that do burn in, and also channel branding on TV's. I certainly want OLED on my next headset. I do get your concern though, but I wouldn't worry too much. The external battery is definitely a good plan to keep the weight down. Appreciate the effort and thought you put in. 👍👍

    You again. 😉😏

heard their field of view is way too small

Heard from someone who had never tried the VR glasses at all 😉.

And no OLED, those have burn in

All screens have the potential for burn in 😉. OLED is the future for better quality VR.

So why not Meta just sell the headset with no head strap or face pad

Lol, why not sell a headset with a better quality headstrap and facepad from the start. Strange logic you have there, pal 😉.

Sell the new vr headset with just the headset, no head strap, no face pad, no battery, nothing. Just the headset.

Lol. Sell new cars without wheels, battery, engine, airbags, nothing. Just the chassis. 😜

And hopefully hire some human body professionals to help design the headset to be comfortable. Like a doctor of some sort, or something.

Who says they didn’t. Many reviews state that the Quest 3 is one of the most comfortable headsets out of the box.

The VR Headset could come as a PCVR headset by default with no ability to play vr games standalone or by itself,

Shows you have absolutely no understanding of Meta’s business plan for VR, or the technological direction, which is mainly focussed on standalone use.

Want to play on 1920 x 1080 screen resolution in VR? Put in the 1920 x 1080 screen.

LOL /facepalm. You want screens that are “not too expensive” but also want to have multiple/replaceable optics/LED panels? Imagine the cost. Anyway, dude, you don’t need to downgrade the “screen” just to play lower resolution games, lol.

I do remember a similar post from someone who (unrealistically) wanted a modular headset but had no understanding of the engineering constraints. Not sure if it was the same person.

All I’d like is a new improved QPro2 with latest chip, 2.5k QLED screens, and an optional DisplayPort connection.

I’m still very happy with my 4yo QPro1 and I’d happily pay $1,500 again for this QPro2.

Having a variety of different models available is the way to go. The OP seemed to be fixated on having only one headset PCVR-only solution. 🤷🏻

Ya, I’d still prefer a versatile headset that does standalone vr/mr, wireless PCVR and DP wired (or maybe wireless DP) PCVR.  Hopefully one will be available in my lifetime, lol!  Cheers.
