Hello ladies and gents of the Oculus forum. For months now ive aspired to be an Oculus rift developer, i want to create rift games. The problem aside from owning a rift if my knowledge on the world. How do you get into developing games? What languages are most important to learn? I am willing to read textbooks for hours until im ready to buy a DK2, however, i don't know where to start. What advice would you give to a beginning developer?
Hello everyone,My name is Aaron Gaskin and I am a student at P.K. Yonge Developmental Research School at the University of Florida. This is my senior year and one of our graduation requirements is to complete a senior research project. As part of our project I must interview a subject matter expert. I have chosen to do the "Future of Gaming" and I was hoping that I would be able to get an interview with a developer or another staff member that is an expert on the Oculus Rift and where it might be headed. The interview can be done via email, phone, etc., should only take 10 to 15 minutes, and can be scheduled whenever it best fits for you. Thanks for taking the time to read this and hopefully respond back.Sincerely, Aaron Gaskin
Hi VR enthusiasts!! We are doing a online survey on virtual reality. Here are 10 questions that will only take 1 minute of your time:https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/MSCHNCJIf you would like to receive directly the result of the survey, feel free to message me. Thank you so much for your participation in helping VR grow!
Just wondering if anyone here has successfully set up a dual boot between Windows 7/8 and Windows 10, in the case where Windows 10 is installed first.Doing this on previous versions of Windows was never a problem. It was always a case of simply installing the second version of Windows to its own partition and it modified the boot loader accordingly. I just want to make sure that's still the case with Windows 10 installed first. Can I simply use my Win 8 DVD to install the OS on a separate partition and have it add itself to the boot menu?
What's happened? Internet explorer replaces Microsoft Edge. I didn't read it properly, but Edge was a risk hazard, so I clicked fix and now the Microsoft Edge icon is replaced by Internet explorer icon?
I've had this Steam coupon for Lunar Flight 75% off for a long time now. It will expire sometime next year, but I need to let it move on or I will just forget it eventually. I already got this great game in my collection so I really don't need it.The first one who wants it and reply to this thread will have to be my new Steam friend so I can pass it on. Please only ask for it if you intend to use it. Don't PM me, I will PM you. Depending on various happenings it might take me a few days to reply.
Hi - I posted this once...but it vanished....I am an Australia living in Hanoi (Vietnam). I wondered if i can my hands on a Oculus Rift here? Anyone know of anywhere?K
I'm getting new glasses soon. Is anyone here familiar with the latest technology in prescription eyewear? Are there any companies that specialize in wide FOV prescription goggles or glasses? I don't care if they look dorky or non-fashionable. I currently have glasses with wide lenses like the kind that Will and Norm from Tested wear. But I'm looking for something wider, maybe something that wraps around my head. Maybe something wide like the goggles that the Major wears in cybereality's avatar.Does anything like that exist?
Hello. For some unknown reason, I am unable to set my profile informations. In User Control Panel, Profile, Edit Profile, I fill in the blanks and hit Submit but it seems to do nothing. There is still no location under my avatar and if I go again to the Edit Profil screen, all the infos I previously wrote are gone, fields are empty.(No issue with avatar or signature.)
Hi.Today my lg g4 arrived. My plan is to aquire a cardboard like or even an Vr Zeiss gear and run the phone as a mirrored monitor of my pc screen that will be running content SBS.So far the only issue is how to stream the data eficiently from pc to the phone.Wireless:moonlight apk looks great but I've a GTX560ti and support for wireless transfers starts at GTX600 series. tried and app named kiney or kini or somethign similar it did stream but all was bluish, low latency have to say.Kinoni (another one)does a pretty decent job, transmiting in full color with low latency. still some compression but hey, looks good.I found this apk that connects via USBhttp://www.usbmobilemonitor.com/home.htmlNot tried yet, do not have such cable arround yet, but looks like the most promissing to me. I might not achieve 2k video transfer but still I will not seeing the pixesl so much. For the content I will build my game with "stereoscopic" for the 2D version instead of using the distorted oculus version.
Hi folks.I'm wondering if any of you have a space x contact.I don't do resume's, as I'm a bit of a 'space oddity'. Folks of that nature, ie, high IQ autodidacts who've successfully beat all engineering challenges they've ever met or looked at, that sort don't do resumes and don't function in regimented worlds... like jobs, resumes, salaries, working hours, and so on. To be clear, I've never failed in any single given engineering design challenge I've ever taken on. Ever. Up to and including, fundamental physics.I have a landing solution for space x, that is more than likely superior to all else they've tried or considered. Something that is repeatable and largely failure proof.Like all such companies, to keep the cranks out, the front door at Space X is, for lack of a better term..'locked'.The problem is, that when they make it difficult to contact them, they also lock out the folks like me. They loose the wheat they look for, when they fight so hard to lock out the chaff.I'm not inte
Right now I have a GTX 770 2gb. I'm planning on buying a new GPU for the consumer version of the Rift. Which one do you think I should get?
A video called Beauty by Rino Stefano Tagliafierro – I advise everyone to download and view at 80 degrees FOV (LiveViewRift or similar).First saw this about a year ago, but last night I viewed it in the Rift - magnificent, despite the pixels. The full 10min version is hard to find now. But here it is:http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=696_1389965460Download “original-0 – unknown” with this:http://www.videograbber.net/
Anyone have some square feet to spare in their home? ;)
I think that all the hardware manufacturers are chomping at the bit for another big money maker, now that 3D TVs and smartwatches have flopped and tablets are hitting a plateau.I'm worried that they'll spend too much marketing and pushing 1st gen VR headsets, then throw in the towel before giving them time to grow more mature and user-friendly.
Hi ppl,I'm clearly not satisfied of my kit buying to Oculus for severals reasons. First I can't use or even test my kit on my Intel machine, it wasn't clearly wrote on site, the only documentation source. To me it's a lie for customers so out of real market. I repeat I can't use my kit on my machine that isn't fair.Secondly not cross platform in 2015 it's a shame. Microsoft ever does bad work in OS, with all money they have they can to give an open solution, maybe in 2044? I tried to install once again 8.1 but no wireless connection why? we don't know. Their OS fails for any atomic setting from my VM (parallels 10) that I bought with my money 100% honest. Windows works only on exotic PCs home made by young gamers. Microsoft ever refuses to negotiate with computers Intel partners as OS X or Linux. Microsoft produces for immature kids obsessed by gaming when they are adults suddenly they stop gaming by miracle.Thirdly I tried to use OS X sdk a real nightmare to use, managing two monitors
By real I mean visual or photographic realism. Currently we have comic-book reality - I'm sitting in my comic-book living room, with my comic-book wife and my two comic-book children (then I put on my VR headset lol). It's as if God whipped out his sketchbook and scribbled something of what he wanted reality to look like.I got tired of comic-book VR pretty quickly. Walking Mars, for instance (real satellite data from Mars, no less). Seen more realism in a Lego landscape. I cannot lose myself in a toy representation of the universe - I can vomit, feel ill, and have an overwhelming desire to lie down and die after a few too many drunken lurches in a cartoon environment upon a comic-book Earth, which is part of a toy universe. But if I want my virtuality to have a degree of reality - realistic representations of known things - then I’ll have to experience plenty lucid dreaming, or some hypnagogic bizarreness fashioned by Dr Caligari. "Was is real for you?" She asked."No." I replied, and v
went to the hospital to see my grandad ,"not a great outlook" however he did get to use the Gear VR :) linky http://imgur.com/gallery/z0MClto
Was at VRLA on the weekend but did't think about queuing up for the vrcade demo while I was there. I am interested in the general feedback about latency and other impressions from anyone who tried it. Mocap tracking is a known quantity, but I wonder what they can squeeze over the airwaves, especially now that we're approaching 2k and higher resolutions at 75+ fps.If you leave your comment it would be valuable to mention your previous experiences (DK, DK2, VIVE, etc.) to put the feedback into perspective.
on alot of the games i try it says im using an outdated version of runtime and i just downloaded the one from the the sight and i cant find a update function on the program an ideas
resolved
After responding to another post, it came to me that there needs to be another benchmark factor:Nauseous factorThis factor should be at a 2 - 5 minute interval, and is the likelihood of making the person sick while playing a "Made for VR" game / demo. With each "test", the scene gets more and more complex until you hurl all over your keyboard. Of course, there are other factors at play, such as the person's physiology.
Without going into the physics of it, ever want an internet speed that is equivalent of having it stored on your local computer? Well, it looks like there has been a pretty big leap in using quantum entanglement (having the properties of 1 electron effect another electron's properties instantaneously no matter the distance) for communications.Within a few months China will be field testing a quantum communications network and satellite. Of course, it is for military and diplomatic communications, however, within a few years time I suspect that there will be a civilian version of the network.. just like how the internet first started.http://www.marketwatch.com/story/china- ... 2015-02-09It looks like the network has been lab tested for awhile now, since 2009. Its also worth it to note that there was a minor article about the USAF looking into it during that time. If we assume ~10 years between technology to become "civilianized", then civilian quantum networks will start appearing in 20
