OK Moore's Law is nearing it's physical limitations. You can only make working transistors on silicon down to about 5nm, after that strange quantum effects kick in and the super thin wires heat up and burn out or don't last as long. And Moore's Law has provided us with smaller, faster, cheaper, better chips every 1-2 years.Note the GPU guys seems to be hovering about 28nm size, and Intel has led the way down to 22nm and is pushing for 16,10 and even predicts 7nm high end chips by 2018.And to get around these limitations already memory is being stacked up at higher die sizes so that layers of transistors take up less space. Nvidia, AMD and Intel are planning on bringing out chips with the memory stacked onto the logic. So we still have a bit of room left in Moore's Law but it's getting cramped down there. My point is we need about 8k+ to present someone with a high enough resolution image to immerse them in something that matches reality. Current high end GPU's and CPU's struggle to dri

Now we all like the oculus rift but thats more so the best competitor. If there was something called not rift and was 100 times better, we'd love it more. I've seen a lot of people (myself included) that wants to get in on this market/experience. So, what is there to get into? This is a VERY large field, saying I want to be in VR, by the time you can, will be like saying I want to be in movie making. I want to personally be a game designer and i have no illusions going into it but here are the questions:What would you like to take part in for VR, if at all?How can you go about doing so, ie, what skills are needed? And how did you figure this out?To me that last question is important because i want to go into this field, check, willing to take time and energy to get skills, check but I have no idea what I really want to do. I want something of course that pays well and I enjoy but with so many options, I'm unsure. Direction is hard to find and I thought this discussion could be fun.
Who's the site's admin? You locked my thread??
So I am looking at the google plastic or cardboard virtual reality stuff I thought it was pretty neat to have an Oculus Rift before it was released. I turned my way to google and there they are they remind me of a makeshift oculus rift I wanted to improve this though using desktop routing apps also known as desktop sharing apps. Has anyone here used google plastic vr kit or the cardboard version? When I look at the plastic it EXACTLY reminds me of the first Development Kit for the Oculus Rift its self. I think this is actually a COOL idea but be warned google is ripping off your money all it is is cardboard and this stuff you can make on your own popping out a pair of reading glasses lens or magnifying lens it's a lot harder to make but an easy route to have an oculus rift. I am probably gonna use this on the Sam Sung Galaxy III or the iphone 5c and try among the sleep with this it seems like a pretty cool idea if you ask me. So yeah have you guys already tried the google vr plastic ki
I need some help from people who have some good understanding of 3D printers. I want to put some of my prototype boards in case and 3D-printing it will be the easiest option. I have an access to a university's 3D printer, but you have to sign up for it 2 weeks upfront and printing quality is very low even for a prototype. So I decided to invest in my own 3D printer. I know little about them, as I was always just giving STL files and received a model day after. Can someone give me advice on the best bang for the buck 3D printer under 1k$? I will be printing on it often, so filament price is also considered (if it differs between printers). Thanks!
If you and your ex-girlfriend were the only people left on Earth, what would you two do? Make sure to keep in mind that you two are responsible for repopulating the world and rebuilding a society.
A startreck version of the oculus is on the way.... http://www.tricorderproject.org/blog/
When I was 19 I told this girl that I liked her.She told me that I wasn't good enough for her and that she'd never go out with me in front of her friends.I didn't swear at her norDid I hit her

Good morning everyone! :D How is everyone? Good? Good?
Is the DK1 really that bad? I'm getting one, and I'm wondering if I'll still enjoy it. Also, how real does the oculus feel? Also, what are some free beginner games you recommend that are compatible with the DK1?
Hello all, i'm a representant of Technologies Directory of a well-know university in Brazil called Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie. We really want to bring an Oculus Rift's representant to show Oculus Rift technologies to our students.I want to know if someone can help me to get the right contacts to make this happen.Any doubts mail me ateventos@datem.org.br
Hi, I'm new to the community and was hopping for some advice.Like almost every one here the rift has left a large impression, however do to my current occupation I didn't feel as if I had the time to do anything more than wait for the consumer version of the Rift to come out. That however has changed. I am now in a position to tailor my future around what I want to do instead of what I need to do. However I'm having a hard time narrowing down the way in which to accomplish my goals. First let me give you a very quick idea on the types of things i would like to do with VR. First, like quite a few people here, I would like to design a game from the ground up for the rift. The second thing I would like to do is work on inputs for VR, such as haptics and motion controls. Now I have found that the road ahead of me is wide open, and has a huge about of signs all screaming " go this way!". So which on do I pick? I know that regional colleges are better than national, but besides that I'm no
Hello, i just wanted to ask if the oculus dk2 is going TO work in a mac book pro. I ask this because mac doesnt have a hdmi entrance but you can buy an extention to get it. Thanks :D
You guys so wish you had this right now...Cheap ATI + custom drivers = why did I Ebay all my cards for worthless ASICs?Oh well, I only kept 7...
Has anyone seen this fan who made an entire realistic remake of the Temple of Time if Zelda was on the PC then this is how the game would look for the Oculus Rift XD if only Lol but he'd probably be sued if he did that and it would probably take up a lot of memory. There HAS to be a way to encourage Nintendo to let him turn this into a real thing XD but I guess dreams are only dreams.http://www.zeldadungeon.net/2014/11/98841/
I tried quite few Android VR Apps with a google cardboard-like headset and was very impress by the experience. That gave me the idea to try to run theses VR apps to my DK2.My first try is by using SamsungSideSync and mirroring my GalaxyNote3 to the DK2 screen. It does works, but the frame rate go down and the resolution sucks. Does anyone found a way to do it with better performance?I think i will try with the All cast share and a USB to HDMI cable this weekend.
I realized I spend a lot of time trying not to miss anything (here, reddit, elsewhere). Wondering if I could be doing it differently? This is my process for consuming news here on these forums:1) Login2) Forums3) Hit "View unread posts".4) Go back a few pages to find the time where I last checked the forums.5) Open up interesting topics from page X in new tabs.6) Read every tab I opened, closing them when I'm done.7) Refresh page X to make sure new topics didn't get pushed down into the top of page X in the last few minutes.8) If some new topics I'm interested in showed up at the top of page X, read them.9) Go to page X - 1.10) Repeat steps 5-9 until all caught up.This can be quite a time-consuming process sometimes! I find it easier to keep up than /r/oculus though, as each topic there has branching conversations which make it hard to keep up with new posts as they come in, and older topics basically drop off into obscurity and aren't categorized into sub forums to make re-discove
I have looked through the forums and found tips to fix this problem. I haven't got it fixed an I am very confused on what to do. Please help if you can. Thanks!
Is there any way I can get an oculus rift dk2 without waiting 2 months?
