http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2014-02-21-tim-schafer-how-to-stay-afloat-in-a-pool-of-internet-twitter-hateOne way Double Fine tried to keep backers happy was by making sure they were well-informed on the team's progress with exclusive ongoing updates and documentary videos tracking the game's development. While that may have worked for backers, there was a downside made clear after Schafer announced the decision to split Broken Age into two parts because the original Kickstarter funding wasn't sufficient to see the game to completion. That was really a lesson for us, learning that even though our backers are really well informed, the rest of the world hadn't really heard of us since the Kickstarter happened," (I was in shock at boeing last weekend how FEW had heard of the Rift or Palmer, much less tried one) Schafer said. "It's weird because the Kickstarter experience had been wading in a sea of love from the fans. Because you don't just get money. You get all this positive sup
What talks are people here going to attend, I was thinking bout dis 1http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/210587/QA_Wrestling_with_the_unsolvable_problem_of_internet_toxicity.phpI never even heard of this guy or this blowup, but I think I will attend his talk at GDC.Adam Orth is a man who knows a thing or two about dealing with toxic behavior on the internet.Orth resigned from his post as creative director at Microsoft last April, shortly after publishing a series of Xbox-related remarks on Twitter that incited large swathes of the game-playing internet to pepper Orth with derogatory messages, angry phone calls and death threats."It was a feeding frenzy. Everything I'd ever done, good or bad, my public and private life, was now fair game for ridicule and abuse," said Orth during a revealing GDC Next talk on the subject. "I felt like an outcast, complete human garbage. I had completely destroyed my career, and endangered my family's life."Orth's GDC Next talk offers a brief taste of the i

If you wanted job security, which company are you going to design games for? Competition is good, if they want my exclusive title, gonna have to fork over something of extreme value yes?

Who else here works 70 hour shifts straight with no sleep like Geekmaster? :) Who else here has run the gamut of sleep deprivation as he has? Hey if it's good enough for our NSA boyz and Drone operators, why not us gaming VR nerds? Now we need to see through electrostimulation, magnetic stimulation, chemical mary jane stimulation, other pills/chemical stimulation, and the right VR experiences, multimedia, etc how do we really expand our minds and consciousness. Will we be punished for hubris? LOL!http://www.bostonglobe.com/news/nation/2014/02/18/air-force-stimulates-brain-waves-improve-performance-drone-operators/V8ZG5DEYze4lCoGlloq14H/story.htmlWASHINGTON — For some modern soldiers, caffeine is just not enough to stay vigilant, especially for the growing ranks of digital warriors who must spend hours monitoring spy drone footage and other streams of surveillance data.So the Pentagon is exploring a novel way to extend troops’ attention spans and sharpen their reaction times: stimu

Hey guys I just thought I would throw this one out there, but is there anyone by chance who bought an Oculus and doesn't plan on using their Unity trial that it comes with? Mine has just run out and I've been working day and night working on my secret little project but unfortunately I had to move homes recently and don't have the $1500 I saved up anymore and it will probably take me at least another month to get it... Idk if this is like frowned upon for "begging" for these but if so I apologize. Thanks in advance!Cheers
http://www.businessweek.com/news/2014-02-20/copycat-mario-game-lures-users-as-nintendo-resists-smartphonesWell as Bill Gates once said to IBM, if you don't canabalize yourself, someone else will do it for you. Nintendo could have released this years ago and capitalized on their own IP, they fought the trend. I can't find any videos of this game on youtube, can anyone provide a let's play video? I saw the video on china's cctv broadcast. All you developers out there wanting to break into that 1 billion chinese market and not give your game away for free, hmmm....Perhaps mankind needs to let go of all these concepts of ownership and capitalist profit? maybe not.
Arcades have died out, most of us probably remember the day's in which we went to battle out Tekken or Street Fighter at the local arcade, or just race it up on some kind of more expensive arcade unit.Could you imagine the type of tech we have now, with perhaps a little ingenuity and backwards engineering of current technology; and how that would affect arcades if they did exist today?Perhaps Massive FOV arcade boxes..Maybe far better Hologram games..smell a vision...I think Arcades were cut short, yeah sure there are Boomers and Dave and Buster's, but they have very limited Titles which only make for 1 or 2 decent experiences, perhaps because of the demand of Arcade units. It's a little sad.Any Thoughts? Should have Arcades thrived to see these days, or was it better to whither away and die due to online competition?.
Hi, how can you get Avatar 3D for the VR cinema?
I recently learned of a interesting gaming experiment that's ongoing right now, and everyone can be a part of it. A guy setup a twitch stream playing one of the original GameBoy Pokemons. But the twist is it's controlled by all the twitch chatters.I'd had preferred a different game like Dragon Warrior myself as I'm not a fan of Pokemon, but I understand the choice in the type of game. Regardless, it's still an interesting idea. Will it ever be beaten? Are you a for progress or sabotage? How many people would be needed for the noise to be filtered out and the hive mind approaches something working like a single brain?http://www.twitch.tv/twitchplayspokemon
I've been learning japanese for about a year now (how ever I'm still having trouble with stories, and movies) how ever I can understand normal conversations. I'm trying to get into japanese (I really am because I love their culture) I'm somewhat ok at memorizing letters (but I occasionally mess them up) "but that's usually any beginners case right?"What are some good tips where I can flawlessly memorize the Japanese alphabet? (personally I don't even remember learning english to be honest. But I can Say the english alphabet both forwards and backwards) I'm really wanting to make my goal this year, by learning all the japanese basics (as in learning the alphabet completely)Much obliged!

There's something rattling around in one of them and I'd like to take a look / fix it so that I can confidently use it again.I see the three rubber stoppers on the bottom, and I managed to get one out using a knife and then I realized I definitely shouldn't do that with a knife.I then tried various tools and can't either of the other two out. Is there a trick to this?
She has never shown interest in trying until the next door neighbors kids came over to try. She saw them having a tonne of fun and then proceeded to try Dumpy Goes Elephants, Titans of Space and Parrot Coaster. At first I wasn't sure she was getting the full effect until she started reaching her hands out trying to touch objects and saying "I'M FLYING!" Now all she wants to do is play.http://youtu.be/hF8aL7hgiDIhttp://youtu.be/NH60EgYpfj8
We recently bought a Rift. For training and research purposes (motion sickness) what demos deliver the best motion sickness effect? Is there a demo with a* merry go round?* a sea/ship demo (standing on a boat?)?* roller coasters? Thanks in advance.
This isn't one of them...
I was really excited for this until I saw the prices. Ouch. A bit too much for me as I would only be using it for fun.I know they want to use it to sell STEM systems aswell but I was only interested in the Rift compatibility tbh.Oh well!
This thread is for anyone thinking about or currently implementing olfactory solutions into their immersion experience (This isn't the first thread to mention smell, but if there is another that is dedicated to the topic I would like to be redirected). You can even talk about things like hanging a pouch of cut grass from your neck for "outdoor" games, or improvised rigs to navigate an array of scented candles/compartments. Could this lead to more demand for the perpetually unappreciated scent peripheral products market?Do you recommend any digital scent technology products, and can they be voice controlled?
someone on amazon is still selling the dev kits for 600 bucks. I guess this is an artifact of early scarcity and delivery delays. I feel sorry for who ever gets ripped off by this
