But we can already tell that it's not gonna support DirectX. Therefore, for developers it's gonna be a choice of either going with OpenGL and pals and develop for SteamOS, PS4,Windows, Linux and Mac, and if they go with DirectX they're stuck with XBone and Windows. Some engines may implement both, but honestly, what's the point - besides getting xBox controller to work easily.Either way, I'm expecting the OS to have a "game mode" which minimizes OS influence, possibly down to zero activity unless requested otherwise, which minimizes context switches and therefore improves performance. Another thing is

Can someone suggest a good VR themed anime?I've already seen : Ghost in the Shell (movies and episodes)Denno Coil (thank you geekmaster)Sword Art Online.hack
One of the first things I thought of when I discovered the Oculus Rift was, "What if we put cameras on the front, routed the feed through some post processing software that puts an interactive HUD on top of the video, then routed it to the screen of the Rift?" Wouldn't that be pretty sweet? We could have semi-transparent applets in our vision that help us out with things. Like instead of looking at a 2D map for Google Maps, the camera's detect the road you are driving on, and then places the destination path on the road itself! Or you could have a virtual pet; not only would it be pretty cool to edit your pet to make it 1/3 cat, 1/3 dragon and 1/3 cyborg, but it would teach kids responsibility without risking the life of your deranged monster of the underworld. You could also have a TV app that assigns a virtual TV to a blank space on your wall... Or a non-blank space... Just like virtual reality, the possibilities are endless. Although there are lots of hurdles to jump over when de

Well I just got my oculus rift today. (and as soon as I plugged it in) I noticed it acts like a 3rd display/monitor.How ever its somewhat distorted (as a monitor) and you're not able to just use it as a display (which I so hope you can in the future) because it'd be great to use.Does anyone know how I can just use it as a display for my games? I don't care if I can look around or not (I'm just wanting to use my oculus rift like a normal monitor) because I'm getting really, really use to them. There are some games I'd like to play like Counter Strike Source, Slender : The arrival, Call of Duty Ghosts, and Crysis 3) ect. Does anyone know how this is possible? Like I said "I'm just wanting to use it as a display" it doesn't matter if I can look around in the world or not (which I don't do most of the time when I'm sitting down)
So, i got a scratch on one of my lenses. Fortunaltely it was not big enough to effect the gameplay (i can see it if i focus on it, but, its fine)So, that got me thinking, if somehow a lens gets damaged can i order replacement lenses anywhere? if i did break a lens while cleaning (or my wife does when putting it away) i'd be screwed with no way to get a new lens.Maybe this is covered someplace, figured I'd ask (and keep it off the main forums).thx
http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/wireStory/report-nsa-spying-virtual-worlds-online-games-21146712Ok who wants to come work for my friends at the pentagon playing deus ex online looking for spies! LOL! I turned in that german guy and that russian female They seemed fishy to me! Call me Denton....
I just decided to check whether or not my smartphone's display was AMOLED rather than LCD (because I tilted it around and figured that it has infinite viewing angle, and this particular phone has two revisions, one with LCD and one with AMOLED screens) by viewing it with the Rift cup, I picked a packaged cup off the Rift's boxcase, couldn't confirm or deny anything because the screen had RGB pattern (could've been direct hit if it had pentile pattern), applying big pressure to the screen didn't had any effect either, but probably because the matrix didn't received any of it, so I'll just keep thinking it's an LCD model because it doesn't have true blacks. Then I (just for the fun of it) checked my desktop monitor with the cup, it had ridiculous SDE although you can't ever spot it under normal circuimstances LOL.Then I was going to put the lens back where it belongs and suddenly......really? THAT was an A cup? The smallest cups are in the boxcase, what are the mounted cups, B cups?.. I
The Virtuix omni made it to the tv show "Shark Tank" where people take their ideas and show them off to the big investors, who've made millions, etc, doing entrepreneurial stuff. The Virtuix guys showed up and they asked for 2 million at 10% (valuing their company at 20 million). The guys were essentially laughed at because the overarching thing, was they didn't think people would actually use the omni on a consistent basis, for one, and 2, they think of gamers as fat, and lazy. What are your thoughts. Do you think that the stereotype the 'sharks' have of gamers is correct to any degree?See this link, here
I can't use the Oculus Rift (just as a display, it makes me motion sick "I keep thinking I can turn my head when I can't and it makes me really dizzy and my stomach starts acting up) I'm already to use to the headtracking. Are there any games that have head tracking? Here's what I'm aware of so far - MineCrift (Minecraft VR mod)- Cinema 3D - Team Fortress 2 - Alone in the Rift - Half life 2 (VorpX driver)- War Thunder- Private eye- iRacing There are about 5 other games I've heard of that has head tracking but I can't remember what they are.
I tried playing TF2 (and it worked just fine) how ever when I start up the movie cinema program or if I try launching mirrors edge with Vireio perception or portal 2 (the game can move around) but the display isn't going into my oculus rift. How can I get my oculus rift to display the game that's on my monitor? I'm new to the rift -_-Edit : Minecraft is doing the samething!
Watch this.http://oculus-rift.ru/Blah blah yadda yadda - $950 for preorder, $1500 for off-the-shelf. For a devkit. Oh my fucking god, really? OculusVR must seriously make it easier for international customers to order the Rift. Just see above numbers to get the magnitude of the problem.Oh and note that they claim to start open sellings in 36 days. Guess you know what that means.
I've been goggling trying to find a particular field of study, which name is alluding me. I'm trying to find research into body modifications. Altering the human body to do things it was either not intended to do, or an individual was not born with the predisposition for (such as hypermobility AKA double jointed). While I can find research into replacing bones with metal alloys I'm hoping to find an overarching field of study. On a second note a co-worker and I were talking and the question came up. "With all of the history of our world and medical science and this one important question that has loomed over every generation. How is it that no one has discovered how to 'honestly' increase a mans penis size" referring to surgical or otherwise. Lots of lies and speculations out there, but no definitive answer for an obvious popular field of study.I look forward to your answers (yup I know this is an odd place to ask, but this is the "off-topic" area :) )
if you have a un-used TF2 hat code (I'd like to purchase it) I'm a huge TF2 fan and would love to have it in my collection.if you're interested in selling it please contact me on steam my ign is (TheArcheaon) same as my forum username.~Thanks!
As the title says, (I don't really have the money right now go get any of the nice drivers such as VorpX)so I was wondering if I could just use the oculus for now as a display. I am aware of there being free drivers such as Vireio but it doesn't work all that great. (plus only works with selected games) I want to use the Oculus Rift with all my games as a main display until I can afford the VorpX driver (I just have to wait until I get paid next month)
Anybody in Eastern Washington or Northern Idaho be willing to let me have a go with their Rift? (Under your supervision of course!) I am intensely interested in the creation of learning content for kids that need some extra help. I tutor kids that have trouble reading and since they all love video games I was hoping to develop a program that would cater to their exact needs. I am a college student and am in no way rolling in the dough. I would love to test the Rift out before making the investment. Thank you for your consideration. ~FA
So, I think I know the answer to my own question but, I've been playing Skyrim more and the game minimizes about every 30 minutes or so ( I have tried various fixes for this mainly from watching YouTube how to videos and I cant fix it ), I am assuming if my game minimizes the Rift screen will revert to my desktop and thats what I will see?Like I'll be playing Skyrim (or whatever) and then the all of a sudden the screen will become my desktop ?Then at this point I will have to take the Rift off, or hit ctrl+alt blind or something ?Any comments welcome. Thanks.I have not recieved my Rift yet, but, I am under the assumption you basically see whats on your monitor in the Rift.
When lurking in the general forum, sometimes I feel this angry vibe against enthusiasts who buy the rift but don't plan to make anything.Personally, I think that enthusiasts and developers are on the same spectrum (just different points on that same spectrum). It isn't good to put enthusiasts in a box, because all enthusiasts have the potential of converting into a developer.Anyways, what are your thoughts? Also when does an enthusiast who makes things become a "real developer"?
Has anyone been to Washington, DC (USA) or Dulles, VA (USA) and used those flight simulators at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museums?I can't say for sure how close the experience matches to really flying one of these planes 40,000 feet in the air. I've never done that in real life. However, I can say the experience was great! Worth the $8 at least once. The vehicle only uses a 35-40 inch TV but it still felt somewhat real when you're flying upside down and turning. My pilot and I played the F-18 dog fighting simulation and shot down 5 planes.http://airandspace.si.edu/visit/mall/things-to-do/simulators.cfmHere are some YouTube clips:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19clWUMfo6Qhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5CgF47hhxAhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kq5UVoFnarwI'm hoping the Smithsonian Institute purchased a couple dev kits to try their systems with VR HMDs and that they would modify their systems to use the consumer Rift instead of the TVs. I can only imagine that it would
have known devs like Carmack, Gates, Wright, etc. ever made a public statement about their belief in life on other planets?
I ordered my PS4 from Amazon last night at 12:01 am and I just got my email saying it has been shipped and will arrive Saturday. It looks like they sold pretty fast because first I tried a bundle with Battlefield 4 but it was sold out. Then I instantly tried just the PS4 with no bundle and my order went through fine.So does anyone have theirs yet? If so how are you liking it? I like the PS3 but it always seemed a little weak to me. Hopefully the 4 will give a solid 1080p with 60fps. They say it should run 4k video but not 4k games...kind of a bummer!
So, one of my first posts here was “Neusea probably isn't problem,” it wasn’t the most well thought out post and my first responder called me out as someone who did not own an Oculus or someone who was not actually a developer, which both are essentially true at this point in time. The next response claimed I would be very poor at marketing if I thought as customers as “sheeple,” that’s what gave me the idea to write this (and yes, I spelled nausea wrong, that didn’t help my image...). So whilst I just threw the word out there in a post that was not the most well constructed, it made me think about the term and why I used it, and, if by using it the response was correct that the use of the term showed I had zero marketing skills. So, the reason I used that term was because I was scared in some way, somehow, the VR experience would be lessened somehow by devs designing to sell to people I referred to as sheeple. I have reasons for believing so do to past experiences that most of us as in
What if some weirdo appeared on your lawn and offered you a one way time travel journey. You can time travel once. Only once to the past or the future, the choice is yours. But take your time to think about it, as there will be no going back. It's a one way ticket to another time.Where would you go? Would you even go at all?
