I'm just gonna blurb out ideas I have that might make for cool VR projects in the hopes that someone will want to do it.1. Adopting some short Lovecraftian stories might be really awesome, even if it's just a theme-park ride kind of experience, not as full blown games. I get chills just reading those books, I might need a poop bucket with OR. The God/Koren Helmet or Shatki helmet from Michael Persinger, Todd Murphy et al is one of the only well known, well researched, commercially accessible neural stimulation technology that produces dramatic psychological and/or paranormal effects. If you're not familiar with it, go ahead and google/youtube some of those names.I'm actually as much afraid as excited about the prospect of combining a robust VR game with that kind of neural stimulation.
It's easy to get suckered into new, so-called "revolutionary" hardware. The biggest, most recent example is the Wiimote, a motion sensitive controller from Nintendo which, when it launched in 2006, was set to change the world. Consumers, developers and even Microsoft and Sony flocked to it; now, less than seven years later, it's dead. Nintendo's credibility is on the wane and the Kinect and Move are both leftovers. On paper, the Rift by Oculus looks similarly ill-fated. It's ambitious, it's novel - like lightguns, dancemats and Guitar Hero before it, it looks like something that might inspire a few years' of gold rush before petering out forever. That's until you actually use it.thanks.
Awesome news! http://www.vorpx.com/forums/topic/vorpxmtbs-controversy-has-ended/http://www.mtbs3d.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=140&t=16097&start=160#p130650Vr enthusiasts need to stick together for Vr to go mainstream imho
Hey, is there anyone that has had any luck with getting Playstation Move controllers to work with PC? I feel they would be awesome to use along with the rift, for those who don't have Hydra. I tried searching some around, but I couldn't find anything. I know the regular controller works with the MotionJoy DS3 tools.
Geek Master, this buds for U. http://freeweev.github.io/ Please all you cool open source people, help liberate this man, what the state has done to him is too frightening. Write him, help him with some books. (if anythiing so that when he gets free, he isn't so mad and crashes the world credit system in a tyler durden wet dream) LOL!)Just read this amazing legacy by Reisse at the blog, He was against corporate agreements that restrict an employee’s ability to contribute to open source side projects. When he wasn’t programming at the office, he was learning, reading his favorite web site — slashdot.org — or helping other teammates brainstorm and innovate.I didn't know any of this until after his death, but it is a wonderful legacy and I am glad I know it now.Ah slashdot, a hangout for many of us for years and decades. My own username is a play off of wilwheaton who is called "clevernickname" over at slashdot. It warms my heart that Reisse was big in that community. For all the sl
The Shadow Warrior from 1997 is now Free on Steam:http://store.steampowered.com/app/238070/With SWP you can increase the resolution! ;)http://www.proasm.com/sw/swp.htmlI tried it - it works - and i´am feeling ~15 years younger... :DBack then was the first wave of VR... so it´s a bit On Topic.. ;)
So there's a bunch of people on the internet who get channeled from aliens calling themselves the Galactic Federation of Light and they're supposed to save us from the upcoming doom that's supposed to happen on December 21, 2012.What are you're thoughts?
I wish you at Oculus and his family all the best.http://abclocal.go.com/kabc/story?section=news/local/orange_county&id=9122999
Hi there! So my dev-kit finally arrived and after first day I wrote my thoughts about it if you're interested (I hope you don't mind me posting this here ^^' ) Read it on my blog: http://blog.frooxius.com/2013/05/my-first-day-with-oculus-rift.html----------------------------So my own dev-kit of the head mounted display for virtual reality that’s been storming the news has finally arrived, giving a swift end to my inpatient waiting and after trying it out for the whole day, I’m taking a break and sharing my thoughts in the meanwhile.Let me just say it right away: It’s incredibly awesome and exceeded my expectations that were quite high to begin with. The first moment I put it on my head with the official tuscany demo I was dazzled, despite the fact that I took my glasses off and didn't even put correction lenses in.Even though that resulted in somewhat blurry image, I was totally taken. Taken into a totally different place. I looked around and found myself in large stone building. I loo
I just saw this posted over on Tom's Hardware ...http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Andrew-Reisse-Oculus-VR-Death,22871.htmlI just wanted to pass on my condolences to the Oculus team. We forget that at times we sometimes spend more time with the people we work with than even our own families, the people we know through our jobs are just and extension of our family. These types of situations are heart breaking. My condolences,Everygamer
I was wondering when the consumer version of VR was going to come out?
http://www.costco.com/.product.11677468.html?&EMID=B2C_2013_0531_CyberSummerOK. So it's not the AR I was hoping for but that just means there's an opportunity here that's ripe for the picking. So what's the solution to the sweaty face problem? A fan in front of the machine to keep the user cool, calm, and collected?
So yeah, I am one of those people who have no time or way too stupid to learn on their own about making videogames. So I have been researching schools on Finland which are teaching video game industry. And looks like Tampere has the best schools and even places for a job. So I am going to try get into TAMK and study BBA, which has gaming industry on it.I know a little about coding but never been so interested in it, 3D modelling and audio has been intresting, but mostly I want to learn about everything and start a indie company after the studies. I have a dream to build a game, and now with oculus rift I have gotten more interesting ideas. I bet it takes 2-4 years to actually get everything running from now but hey its better than being lost "what to do with my life"I have tried different jobs, and everything just seems pointless, unrewarding and nothing I could enjoy for the rest of my life. So I got get some degree and get people to kick my ass forward on my goal and hope that someday
Just discovered a websight for a view of the interior for the new bombardier aircraft c-series. The format is in panaflex view. This format might be excellent for the real good to use with Ocular Glasses.I still await mine in the shipping processing, so let me know how this works in the forums will you?heres the linkhttp://www.flycseries.com/interior.aspNeil Mc Neillnrmcneill@shaw.ca
Here is an old military document on Pre Oculus attempts at VRhttp://www.dtic.mil/dtic/tr/fulltext/u2/a230469.pdfPage 51 is interesting LOLregardsMike
Would like to see this rifted, since the real froggy will be dead soon, so that we can remember froggy :(A study released Wednesday said that North American frogs, toads and other amphibious animals are disappearing so quickly that they are on track to be extinct from their natural habitats by 2033. According to the Denver Post, the study — which was conducted by the U.S. Geological Survey — said that these types of animal populations are disappearing at a rate of 3.7 percent per year, although certain threatened species are expected to be extinct from their natural habitats within 6 years. The researchers found that amphibian species are even rapidly declining in protected areas. Biologist Erin Muths of Ft. Collins, Colorado told the Post, “Even in what we consider pristine areas, we are seeing amphibian decline. If anything is doing poorly in an area we think is protected, that says something about our level of protection and about what may be happening outside those areas.”The USGS s
We should consider freezing as an Option to get our Rift Dev Kits "right know".So we could have a meeting with those who are impatient and everybody should take their refrigerator along and we need someone who has already received the dev kit. That guy will be freezing the very last person and of course will unfreeze us once our dev kit has arrived.I think this is a great Idea. :D
hey guys, this is something my cousin has been cookin up, I think a lot of gamers could stand to benefit from this. Please take a look and leave some feedback, and if you like it, share it!https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=aCUsoGIs6wY
So, I've heard the anecdote that if a person lives long enough upside down, the brain eventually flips the view, allowing the person to comprehend the world in this new orientation. If we use OR to simulate animal vision that are drastically different from humans, say lateral eyes like fish, or compound vision, or even ones that don't exist in nature like fisheye, 360 spherical, front/back split, would this cause our brains, after a long enough exposure period, to rewire itself to handle the new ways of perception?
If anyone has the time, would really appreciate some advice.[sad rant ]Been feeling sort of lost with what to do with hobbies lately, and just like I'm not making the most potential. "Real life" everything is fine, doing well at what I do and socialise great and everything, but a big proportion of my time is spent on the computer and a lot of "skills" I have are too. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but there's no one I talk to with common interests and absolutely no outlet for those things to be used with..Something I love to do is game design (as you know if you've seen any of my posts), but for a long time now absolutely nothings been done with that - just working and writing about it by myself because it interests me. Graphic design and sound design are other things, but everything with that is alone and no one to talk about it with or work on things with. Its just an incredibly lonely feeling, when you just want to talk about it with other people. Hard to feel like you're truly g
Last year, Carmack did an OR demo, do you think we will see a demo this year? Maybe see some improvements, or the latest developments? has anyone heard any rumors?
"And so the onslaught of Oculus Rift game videos continues with another game that I'd love to play with the thing: Arkane's excellent first-person stealth game Dishonored. Here's Vaecon walking through the first fifteen minutes of the game, all in ultra-immersive first-person. I sort of wish he'd moved it along to a more action-packed part of the game, but it's still pretty cool to see what the game'll look like in VR. Man, I bet this makes leaning a whole new thing."Original Post: http://kotaku.com/stab-up-close-and-personal-with-dishonored-on-oculus-ri-500040172Youtube Post: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=brZKaZfPRQ0
Another definition for an old word.Don't we all have a feeling that the VR is going to be big right.Like T.V. bigLike Cell phone bigLike google bigBut is the Oculus Rift going to get the credit it deserves. If we personify it for a moment :)People are going to want to find a word for it.VR(virtual reality) is good. It's not going away. But it's a noun. You don't say "I'm going to VR" or "I've been VRing all day" or "He VRed into the game and shot five aliens."I think "rift" should be the official word for it. Lets make the stand now before some word-jockey from some newspaper invents some stupid word for it.To rift is to enter or be immersed into a virtual reality.Cymatic Bruce is already helping: "hey, rifters"I'm just saying keep it up guys.
2.jpg1.jpglet me say, i'm not very computer savvy. I have a very basic knowledge on how computers work. but i am a OR supporter and an avid game enthusiast. so please excuse my ignorance.here is what im working withProcessor : Intel core i7 cpu q740 @ 1.73 GHzRAM: 6.00 GBOS : win7 64bitGraphics card: ATI mobility radeon hd 5870In the tiny world demo, im getting around 112 FPS....but in Tuscany, im getting 12..yes 12 lol. any suggestions on how i can get my fps up in tuscany?**edit**I just checked my frame rate in the among the sleep alpha, it stayed @ around 60 fpsjust to be double sure, i launched gmod, . fps stayed around 60 there as well
I'm looking for someone willing to lend out an Oculus (or sell it) and would be able to provide a VR experience (3D building walk through) for an event taking place in June 2013 in Holland.
