I think you have to 'click' the icon at the bottom of the in-VR home screen (looks like a microphone, next to the icons for Store and Library) to initialize the feature, at which point its functions will be shown to you and it'll just stay active until / unless you deactivate it.
After that, you just say "Hey Oculus" to get Home's attention, and then "Launch [title]" to auto-launch a program you have, or "Find [title]" to look through your library (and I think also the store?) for the program without launching it.
You also have a second or two to say "Cancel that" if you change your mind or if it brings up the wrong thing or something.
There may have been other commands that I'm forgetting about..
It's hard being the voice of reason when you're surrounded by unreasonable people.
I avoid Steam VR like the plague. It does have more features, but the overall experience is so bland that I rather do without the features. Besides, there is only one thing I care to do when I log in: play a VR title. Not many features needed to accomplish that simple task.
At least with Oculus Home I am tempted to just hang out and look at the Store for a bit. With Steam VR all I wanna do is hurry up and click something to get the hell outta there. In fact, I usually launch the title from the System Tray so that I can jump straight in to the App and avoid Steams VR home screen.
Generally I like Oculus Home, but there's some problems: - SO MANY steps in the reconfigure process. I don't need to watch 3 videos in a row for the hundredth time just to do a sensor calibration. That should happen once at most, then become optional. The entire setup process should be streamlined. - Also on the setup process, some steps involve using the touch controllers, but you have to use the mouse to advance to the next bit. Hold touch at eye level and pull the trigger, then click next with the mouse, then use touch to draw the guardian boundaries. The touch buttons should work instead of the mouse too! - Needing to log into an account to do anything is damn annoying. I'm thinking of situations like at a college (hint: I'm in that situation) where students just want to test a unity game they are developing on the rift, they aren't buying anything or using existing games, just want to run their own code without needing an account. - Complete lack of using the potential of the home setting. Apart from buying/launching games, there's zero to do! Home should have different rooms. It should have customisation to make it our home, not a clone of everybody else's.
Maybe scrap the entire home setting and avatar system and buy the Rec Room team to make a replacement? :)
