New Star Citizen Webpage

Hey guys,

Just wanted to pass along the news (in case anyone missed it) that Star Citizen has upgraded their website and if you kickstarted you need to go migrate your account. You'll get a bunch of new free stuff for doing it.

They are also doing another 24 hour live stream right now:

What's the link for their new site? I couldn't quite figure it out. Or did they simply replace one site with another at robertsspaceindustries.com?

seems they just replaced the old one - just migrated my account and was able to get a good callsign, so thanks for making me aware (I would have hated to get to it after all the good ones being snatched away).

and finally I actually know what I have so far ... and it even includes alpha- and beta-access ... ohh happy days! I was not expecting that since I went for a less expensive package (28€). But I guess being early got me a bonus.

Ohh ... seems like you get some sort of bonus items after migration, just don't get too excited.

Yeah, I think we probably got the same package. The Aurora LTI one? Did you catch the part about Rift support for the hangar app being a stretch goal? (I believe they already said the final game WILL have it, not as a stretch goal).

I think they are shooting to have a simple version of the hangar out sometime before the end of this year, it will be cool to get a taste of what Star Citizen on the Rift is going to be like.

The package is named "Digital Scout - LTI" - backed it on November 16 2012. I was not aware that they are making us pay again for Rift support. But to be honest I don't care, if they want me to try the Hangar it will have Rift support ... if they don't then I really don't feel any need.
I actually don't follow the title that closely, more curious about a finished game then years of teasers :)

Rift support for the game was part of the initial stretch goals and will be in game. What this latest one is about has to do with the "hangar module".

Due to time / resources constraints, the module is to be provided in August 13, they would not have been able to provide rift support at that time for it. However, my understanding is that with this goal completed they can now place appropriate resources on it so that it can be done in time for the module release.

SC is one of the games where I am hoping that will make the Rift shine, even better than the EVr demo.

    See their stretch goals here:
    https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/13103-New-Stretch-Goals

    $12 million

    * Build professional sound studios. We’ll move Star Citizen’s sound production from a home office to high tech facilities that will give us access to cutting edge sound effects and Hollywood voice talent!
    * Oculus Rift support for the Hangar Module.

They're at $11,846,900. Yesterday they pulled in $548,859. Before that, they were pulling it about $150,000 per day. I really wouldn't worry. Oculus Rift support for the Hangar Module is pretty much guaranteed at this point.

You know that they're doing amazingly well when each of their stretch goals are $1,000,000 apart.

Their eventual goal, they say, is twenty million dollars.

Should I spend 60 hard earned dollors in that sweet looking Avenger with LTI? Or just wait till its out, what do you guys think?

While one can wait for the game, and only pay whatever price is charged on release as all assets will be available (except LTI) and achievable in-game with in-game credits, the beauty of the ship pledging with LTI is that it makes it less in-game onerous to lose a ship. Especially with the different models within the same ship types as you get back at the very least the configuration you pledged for; in addition to (hopefully) being part of insuring the game success.

While yo can probably also spend those $60 bucks later (if the real money prices remain the same) you will miss out on the LTI and while it was said that in-game insurance would be similar in relative cost to what is seen in Eve (not that much) it would still be a pain to keep track of and maintain (I think).

In the end, it's up to you to decide if supporting a game like SC is a worthwhile objective.

In my case, as I have been a fan of Space games (WC series, Privateer, Freelancer, Elite, Homeworld, X series, Eve Online) I have no qualm about filling up the hangar with support booty. (315p, 325a, Avenger, M50, Aurora).

As far as a tight-nit, active community base? Absolutely yes.

But I think its going to be different as well. It doesn't sound like CIG is making Star Citizen as ruthless as EVE is, at least from a PVP perspective. If you don't like PVPing, you will be able to avoid it. Same is true of EVE to some extent I guess, but even if you are avoiding it, it sometimes finds you.

During the live stream they talked about how each instance is populated, and that we will have some kind of sliding scale for PVP. People with their PVP slider on max will more likely get instanced together. People with PVP on low will most likely get instanced together. What I didn't understand was if that slider is user adjustable, or if it just moves over time based on your actions.
