Question

PC specs, Oculus requirements...

It would be great if users could share their PC system specs and general performance with the Rift. Ideally, I would like to sample enough users to come up with a "minimum requirements" & "recommended requirements" baseline for best performance on a PC. Please post reply with a short message indicating:

1. Processor type & speed
2. Video Card make & model
3. Amount of RAM
4. Anything else relevant to Rift performance
5. Your impression of the performance of the Rift, on your system

Thanks in advance!

i5 3570k 3.4GHz (havent touched the clock speed yet and it seems the mobo just bumps it up! 4.2Ghz under full load)
    Z77 Asus mobo
    8gb ddr3 1600
    AMD HD 5850 1gb OC'ed

Tuscany SDK demo runs @ 160-180 fps. Whatever MSAA they are using is ON...looks no higher than 2x.

Hawken, one frustum @1280*1024 textures "ultra" graphics quality "medium", 60fps.

    i7-2600k @ 4.4
    gtx 680 2GB factory overclocked
    16GB RAM

run tuscany @ 1080, locks to 60. I'm sure it would go much higher.

    TF2 @ 1280x800. 16XAA. 250 fps. I've tried downsampling, but it doesn't work for some odd reason.

the requirements right now shouldn't be bad at all. but after using the rift for a while, hopefully within the next 5 years we get a 4k panel in there. running a 4k panel @ 60 with a more demanding game will require a bit of a beast I'm sure.

Well here at work I've got the following rig:

    i7-3820 @ 3.6GHz
    16GB RAM
    GTX 680

Haven't had any problems running any Oculus demos.
    AMD Ryzen 7 1800X | MSI X370 Titanium | G.Skill 16GB DDR4 3200 | EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 | Corsair Hydro H110i Gigabyte RX Vega 64 x2 | Samsung 960 Evo M.2 500GB | Seagate FireCuda SSHD 2TB | Phanteks ENTHOO EVOLV

AMD FX 4170 (quad core 4.2ghz not overclocked)
8gb (normally 16, but two sticks died recently) DDR3 1600mhz
    660ti 2gb factory overclocked

I can't state any relevant performance, until my rift gets to me, but that's what my dev pc is. I don't expect any problems.

No Rift currently, but the Tuscany demo gives me approximately 140FPS staring at the house and 250FPS staring out to sea, with an average of about 180FPS just wandering around (at 1280 x 800)

    i7 870 OC'd to 3.53GHz (from 2.93GHz)
    8GB DDR3 1600MHz
    GTX 570 (slight overclock)

Good thread! I would also like it if people could talk about any must-have Rift peripherals and input devices.

The right/best combination of inputs devices is an Oculus requirement, in a sense, right?

Thank you to everyone for posting your PC specs. I am about to purchase a PC specifically for using the Rift, and UNITY/UDK. Knowing what other people are using, is very informative in helping to decide cost VS performance. I still think it would be great if at some point, Oculus endorsed a "min requirements" & "recommended requirements" kind of thing...

Special thx to cybereality for sharing...knowing what you use at Oculus is particularly informative.

The problem with that is the requirements vary with the application.

My 6 year old laptop can run the demos for instance, but at about 20 fps.
That's not good enough to use a rift comfortably, but there's no reason why I couldn't write a program with simpler graphics to improve the framerate. (quake 3 level graphics would get me about 350 fps for instance.)

Setting minimum requirements for using a rift, when so much of it actually depends on the kind of applications people make is a bit difficult.

It's kind of like asking, "what are the minimum requirements to run games on a PC?", when you aren't clear if by games you mean something like bejeweled, (version of which could run on stuff made in 1990, in principle), or Crysis. (which even modern PC's can still struggle with.)

From what I've seen so far, this is the absolute bare minimum you need to be able to run a rift if you're willing to make programs yourself. (what the minimum is if you use stuff made by others is currently an unanswerable question.)

    1. computer must have USB
    2. Computer must support DVI or HDMI out
    3. There must be enough spare GPU pixel shader performance (or cpu performance, hypothetically) to perform the final screen image warp.
    4. Any software running has to be able to render at least 2 views at 640 by 800 each and combine them. (but the complexity of it can be almost anything), at at least 60 fps.

Anything beyond that is largely down to the people that end up making software for it.

Based on these requirements, the oldest computers that might be able to cope would be from about 2000 onwards.

Based on the SDK demos, the minimum requirements in practice seem to be closer to requiring high-end 2007 era graphics hardware at a minimum.

But... Again, some might choose to target much lower end systems. It's definitely possible to do it, as far as I can tell...

My dev kit hasn't arrived yet, but I had no problems with the Tuscany demo. 60 FPS steady.

Edited to include GPU RAM
