Regarding the popups, don't they set a cookie so you only see it once?

That's the theory (more or less - it defaults to once each 90 days, but that's per-forum; tapatalk say it's only once but I have checked their JS and it does set a 90-day expiry. That would probably be OK, if it always worked).

However some folks - like myself - seem to have the issue where they get it each day whenever visiting any enabled forum. It's not a cookie retention issue per se (I have cookies enabled in safari) so I don't know what the cause is. I'm not the only one, here's a few reports:

http://support.tapatalk.com/threads/annoying-popup-removal.8260/
http://support.tapatalk.com/threads/can-non-taptalk-users-block-the-prompt.16303/
http://support.tapatalk.com/threads/how-to-disable-the-tapatalk-pop-up.8032/

It's not a problem for a single forum, but for anyone who often follows interesting links from search results by opening them in background tabs, and those links happen to lead to tapatalk-enabled forums (ones they don't generally visit), then the annoying popup thing happens regularly. Google shows over 800,000 results for the search http://www.google.com/search?q=tapatalk+irritating+popup.

My beef is not so much with whether on not this forum has popups on or not (should they introduce support) but that taptalk is a product that has contributed to significant annoyances for everyday iOS users on the web. As a developer myself I'm constantly made aware that we need to keep our software user-friendly and as such it's kind of second nature to get annoyed at things that degrade user experience. By at least making our opinions known forum admins may begin to learn that it's a good idea to turn this off. If no-one raises the issue the problem will continue.

That said, if it's introduced here I've got no issue as long as the popup is disabled. Forum admins may like however to check out threads like this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2148422, http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/18kc2g/ads_now_showing_up_in_tapatalk_a_299_app/

I like the idea of being able to read this forum on my phone.

As an alternative to tapatalk and forum runner, maybe there's a responsive theme for phpbb somewhere?

While you're at it, have a look at the "like" mod.

I see a lot of great suggestions here and replying with a post like "good idea" etc just clutters up the forum.

The tapatalk forum client app is free today for Android and iOS.

Wouldn't it be nice if this forum had the plugin installed? It only takes a few minutes. And it's a one line change to the template remove the javascript for the alert popup refering the mobile visitors to tapatalk if it annoys people.

Oh you could just use a browser to search the forums, I use my browser and never had an issue reading this forum on my phone or any forums for that matter, Don't see the point on cluttering up my phone with more pointless apps that I will never use.
