Question

PLEASE MAKE A VIRTUAL DESKTOP!!

I know this is off topic, but I see an entire segment of usefulness for this device completely outside of gaming.

What I would like to see (and I'll buy in a heartbeat if someone can make this) - is a virtual desktop.

One that is massive, you can rotate your head and simply see different areas of the desktop.

Imagine having 20 documents open at the same time, it would be like having 30 monitors in front of you.

Stock traders could have 20 different charts open in their virtual desktop at the same time.

THAT is the real power of it, making the next super-user desktop worker.

However to make this work the Oculus would need a camera added, so when you look down at your keyboard and mouse you actually 'pass through' the camera image back of the real world. That way you transition seamlessly from the real world (placing your hands on the correct keys) - to the virtual one (a large massive virtual desktop).

Let me know when you guys have one, I will buy it today cnmcdee@gmail.com

How would the mouse be used?

When you use virtual desktops today, the mouse pointer "jumps" to the desktop you switch to. But with OR you would want a seamless transition.

I'm thinking that the mouse cursor will need to be attached to the camera rather than the world(scren) so as you look around the cursor will move with your head. This will also help prevent loosing the mouse cursor in the enviroment. It shouldn't cause too many issues as you generally click on what you are looking at.

That being said virutal desktops and multiple desktops are not exactly the same thing. I'm not currently convinced that you need multiple virtual desktops since there is the possibility to position windows in a complete sphere around the user.
