Loved FFVII. I received the first FF in '91 as a gift under the Christmas tree (I was 13 at the time) after which it was nothing but me, the game, PJ's and cookies for the next two weeks until I defeated Chaos and ended the paradox; after which I became indomitably hooked. FFI, IV, VI and VII (I was also a big fan of Mystic Quest, even if it was for the younger kids) hold some of my most treasured and heartfelt moments in video games and sealed my future as a gaming nerd for many years to come. They were truly magical pieces of storytelling genius... If only they still made them that way now...
(Welcome to the forums btw. :))
“If you are willing to look at another person’s behavior toward you as a reflection of the state of their relationship with themselves rather than a statement about your value as a person, then you will, over a period of time cease to react at all.”

Indeed! I have a lot of fond memories from FF games. :)
The old... I never particularly liked this game, but its soundtrack was such an odd rearrangement of the first title's songs that it just couldn't be ignored. Weird as hell and sticks to the memory like 1-second epoxy!
The new... this one gets my grand prize. How can you arrange a soundtrack that makes you feel like there is impending doom if you fail this level? Like this. This is how you do it. Make the player feel like they are indeed in the process of saving something of a Universal scale. Awesome track. Best game soundtrack overall imo. If 2:44 doesn't give you shivers I don't know what could.
I'm a big fan of Arjen Lucasen especially his Ayreon albums. Ayreon is progressive metal. The albums usually have a scifi theme or something very close to scifi. For example in The Human Equation album the story takes place inside the mind of a man who is in a coma.
