@LZoltowski
That are quite large packages. I'm fighting with similar problems atm. Do you save them locally or are you running from a server/nas? We have to work from a server...and I hate saving/loading with these sizes. Also did you use FumeFX for the smoke/fluid sim?

@kojack
I remember Sculpt Animate...and the legendary "juggler" demo.

Actually, it's PhoenixFD, it fits in the pipeline better (https://www.chaosgroup.com/phoenix-fd/3ds-max), I have a drobo with 3TB drives on it for storage. http://www.drobo.com/storage-products/5C/

Any current project runs on a Samsung 1TB SSD, once the project is done, everything gets archived to the drobo

Cool...I fiddled around with the PhoenixFD demo a while back. Was very fun and rather fast...but for my needs the Maya Fluid solver is still enough. We buy stuff on a project basis, if you need something or it could speed up the process it normally gets approved by my boss ;-).

I'd love to work locally more often but we got rules about saving it all to the local server (backup/redundancy) and also most of the time 2 or 3 people have to work with my stuff besides me.
We got a big rackmounted Synology Disk Station...and use 2 bay WD Professional NAS (with WD Black 3TB drives) connected via Thunderbolt for local work/proxies...still the current project lags so bad. (6400x1200 exr files with 48 render passes in them, each at about 90 mb) not to mention the Maya project with around 1.4gb of in project data and around 9gb of referenced files in it. I so hate the autosave atm...but crashes with no current save aren't good either. Times like this...I miss smoking. XD
