The biggest thing to remember is that the Storm Troopers you are complaining about, are just as bad in the 3 episodes that come after Rogue One. So it wouldn't make sense to make them Snipers one day, and then turn them back in to huge-miss-rate bandits the next. Na' mean?
In fact, this is how all the episodes break down for Storm Troopers, in order:
Episode One: Can't shoot anything. Episode Two: Can't shoot anything. Episode Three: Can kill Jedi at super close range. Rogue One: Can kill a small group of rebels. Episode 4: Can't shoot anything. Episode 5: Can't shoot anything. Episode 6: Can't shoot anything. Force Awakens: Get really close to shooting stuff and thaangs.

That would be like asking you to keep similar topics in one thread or poll... but we all know how much you prefer to randomly run out with new ones. You'd make a great Storm Trooper :D
Biggest problem with Rogue One: they left out Kyle Katarn! It was Kyle that stole the death star plans in the lucas arts game Dark Forces.
Kyle was an ex imperial soldier who became a mercenary, then a jedi. He walked the line between the light and dark side, used guns in addition to a light saber, and was just a cool character, and even had a real actor for the video cut scenes.
But thanks to disney, Kyle's part in the Starwars story has been removed. :(
Well, the question here is whether Dark Forces is considered to be canon. If it wasn't, then this is a moot point and wishful thinking. Granted, they developed the Kyle Katarn character very well, and it's a waste for him not to be canon.
He was in Dark Forces, Jedi Knight, Mysteries Of The Sith, Jedi Outcast, Jedi Academy and Empire At War. All were published by LucasArts and the first 3 developed by LucasArts. Since George Lucas' company created the character and backstory of Kyle Katarn, it would be a shame if he wasn't considered canon. But Disney don't really care.
My advice for storm troops is to take a deep breath, line up your gun and then shoot. Try and aim a bit to the left about 5 mtrs, as this is how much your gun sights are out. Additionally, take off your helmet as it just clogs your view. There is also no need to wear plastic armour as every hit from a rebel force will kill you. Moreover, dont jump into an imperial ship as you have chance of being hit and killed by any rebel hand lazer due to the 100% accuracy/death rate ratio.

The storm trooper armor isn't for blocking weapon fire. In the future there were so many lawsuits due to accidents at the workplace that they decided to introduce the equivalent of a full body hard hat as a health & safety measure.
Sadly the Empire still hasn't fixed the lack of railings. Possibly because all the drops that a railing would be next to are so huge that death is certain, so no injury lawsuits from victims. Hitting your head on a low door: sue! Falling down a km tall shaft: dead.
