Question

Shipping no longer delayed? + First Impressions!

I'm putting this in off-topic, since I don't want to get in anybodies way, and I know its mostly due to my own supidity and lack of presence.

I've been avoiding Rift news for a few months while I saved up to get one. I may not be a developer, but I'm a gamer who likes to test things to try to help out that way.
I ordered mine and expected to see it in a month or two, but from what I've seen in the forums, shipping is no longer a big issue? I even saw "Shipping takes 3-5 business days" on the order screen.

So my question is, has the current state of shipping improved or the sales died down enough that shipping only takes a few weeks?
UK order, by the way.

Thanks for taking the time to read!

EDIT
Since a lot of us have shared the experience of waiting for our Rifts to arrive, how about sharing our first impressions as well?

I reckon us lot should start another thread after they've all been delivered for our first time rift experience's, what do you think? :?:

Once your Oculus Arrives, just post how you got on with setting it up, how it handled, what you game/demo you tried first and anything else related!

Ok guys so here is my review after 3 days with the Oculus. I found out im on the nauseous side unfortunatly so I guess I'll need alot more time to get used to this device unfortunatly.

    So I tried many demos.

1- Tuscany : First impression was a bit of a let down. I had heard so many great things about this one that I think I was overhyped. Its a good demo but not great. I dont feel like I need to show this to my friends or family. There are much better demos out there right now. Also, the graphics were a bit of a letdown, too much "noise" that I didnt get and some other demos. I also felt nauseous most of the time I moved, which was also a letdown...but this has probably nothing to do with the demo, its on my side. All in all I give a 6/10

2- Rift Coaster : Much better experience. I felt much better with this one. I tried the coaster 3 times in a row and had much fun and that first drop is crazy when you look down, I held my breath everytime and let go some screams, luckily I was alone at home at the moment lol. My 3 yrs old son tried it and liked it but my wife couldnt stand it for more than 30 seconds, too much nausea. Good demo 8.5/10. Will show to my friends.

3- Titans of Space : Good and simple. Well done, I really liked the feeling of being there in the middle of nowhere, looking at the space all around me I felt really small. Graphics are great and I liked the fact that I could zoom in for even better details of most of the planets. 8.5/10.

4- Riftoon : Havent played for more than 2-3 minutes. Good stuff but I felt nauseous fast. Jumping didnt help. Well done but nothing to write to my mother. Will have to show my son this one he might like it alot. 7.5/10

5- Lunar Flight : So I bought this one in a heartbeat and I think this is one of the best Ive tried so far. Couldnt get the freaking vessel to land correctly even once after many tries...all the crashes made me feel nauseous. As long as I had control of the ship I was fine but once I lost control or crashed the ship, oh my... didnt feel good at all. I really like the inside with all the controls and also seeing your body with the 360 controller in hands add alot to the feeling of being there. 9/10

6- Euro Truck Sim 2 : Wow. Just wow. Graphics are bad but the Rift coupled to my G27 sucked me in the game big time. Felt great to look around inside the truck, look at your mirrors (no need anymore for those secondary mirrors floating on both side of the screen anymore), driving in the rain at night, lightning effects in the cab....and one major thing : looking out the window when parking the trailer oh my god!!! I was there haha. I felt a bit nauseous but nothing I couldnt handle for the time I played (45 min). Its really hard to read the gps, speedometer and all the stuff you have to read in the cab but I can live with that, this is just the dev kit, I know where this is going and its going to be great once we get the final product. 9.5/10

7- RedFrame : Great graphics, great sense of being there. Very small demo but this one show alot of potential. I felt like everything was a bit too small, or me too tall I dont know. 8.5/10

8-VR Cinema : Took me quite a while to get it working and find a working sbs video to play and ended up downloading a trailer of Avatar from youtube with VLC. This demo is really good, its really like being there. This is the only one my gf liked. Moving around made me feel nauseous once again lol.. as long as I move slowly and dont strafe its ok. The movie played great and the 3d was good but the quality of the graphics from the movie was ok nothing more. Some people said they watched entire movies this way but in my case I dont think I could. I need better resolution. However I can see myseilf watching entire movies this way in the future once we get the final product with better resolution. 9.5/10

9- Time Rifters: Very nice, well done. I played the first level and have had some fun but so much stuff happening, I might not be ready for this because guess what I felt nauseous in this one also. Always the same problem. But I understand why people like this game. You really feel like being there. 9/10

10- Heli-hell : This one is also very good. You feel like your inside the helicopter, flying around is really great, you get the feel of heights and speed. Unfortunatly I had trouble with the controls (didnt know I could use the 360 controller at the time.) and many times I dropped down while trying to go up and ended up feeling really bad...you know when you press to go up and the copter goes down and through the floor....my brain didnt like that at all, expecting a major crash every time. I had to stop and go to bed at that point.... I played this game on the first night that I got the oculus. I should have waited before going to bed and maybe watch tv or do something else because I woke up in the night many times, feeling like in a copter out of control....so guess what...I trew up twice that night and shat my life.

So...2 days later I still feel dizzy. I might just be sick because my son and gf have had the flu just a week ago so this could be it, I dont know.. Still, I haven't touched the oculus much since because as soon as I lay my eyes on it my body tell me to stay away lol..like when you get reeallly drunk on something and cant drink this thing anymore because of the bad memories.. The only thing Ive tried since the first night is VR Cinema and Time Rifters, late on the second day.

Oh well, will try out some more in the next couple of days and we'll see how it goes ;)

update: This is getting better now since my last post. Ive jumped alot in a couple of demos and did a lot of things to get nausea and it wasnt that bad, much better than expected, my brain is getting used to it.

I might be able to play HL2 one day 8-) (hydras in the mail baby)

Exactly what I was worried about when I heard they are running out of units. I'm from Finland too, by the way! I ordered mine yesterday and few hours ago my order info changed to "processing" and my Rift will be shipped in the next batch. Exciting! I wonder how long it takes to get it here to Finland.

If the order page lets you place an order, that means there are still units left in your region. Typically shipping within Europe will take around 5 - 7 business days, but could be longer depending on customs delays. Hope that helps.

Yeah, thanks Cybereality about the info, actually thought it would take weeks or maybe even months to arrive. :)
Almost decided to wait for dk2 or even ck, but I really could not wait that long to be able to experience VR and experiment with some of my ideas... This really is something from my childhood dreams. And if I like dk1, offcourse I'll buy the final version whenever it will be available.
