The "I'm effin Quarantined" Megathread

Governments across the Globe are in Quarantine, so I figured that this community could use a thread to discuss our first-hand experience of its impact. As a side note, I never would have guessed that a global pandemic would be the primary driver to getting VR more mainstream!
:p

For me, I had taken a long break from VR. I have maybe engaged in VR for 1 hour ever 2-3 weeks. It's been that way for nearly 6 months now. Mostly because I feel that I've experienced so much since I first acquired my Rift in 2016; I got to the point that everything (even new AAA titles) started to feel like 'more of the same.' This is something that has impacted me before. For example, I began gaming with the Atari 2600 as a kid, moved on to NES, SNES, Sega, and eventually PC Gaming. But I took a very long break from gaming (over 5 years) because I hit a point where everything on every gaming platform felt like a regurgitation of something I've done before.

However, now that I'm stuck home for at least 2 weeks during quarantine... it's time to jump back on to the fray!

So...
  1. What games/experiences will you be engaging in with VR?
  2. What non-VR activities will be occupying your time?
  3. Are you one of the people who can work from home during quarantine? Or is this pandemic negatively impacting your job?
  4. Are you hoarding food and toilet paper?

I'll answer first:
  1. I will be (finally) completing SkyrimVR. Before I took my VR "break," I had already completed both DLC's in SkyrimVR, and I'm already near the end of the main quest. After that, I will be loading up Stormland.
  2. I'm playing through Divinity Original Sin for the first time, in preparation for the upcoming release of Baldur's Gate 3. Beyond software, I will be doing lots of exercise.. Gotta keep up the conditioning!
  3. Since I'm a software engineer who has been working from home primarily for at least the past 10 years, this quarantine will be... more of the same.
  4. I'm a non-hoarder, but wondering if I will regret it.

@Morgrum - I want to also add that I mean no disrespect to military personnel. I have family who are retired military, and close friends in active military. In fact, one childhood friend whom I speak to almost daily is active military.

My comments are more about the difference between "military + citizens working together" vs "military policing citizens."

No matter how well-intentioned one may be, once we are tasked with being "your police," then context and behaviors will change. Maybe not immediately, but over time the likelihood for a negative experience is great.

Of all the folks on these boards Snow really needs to be stocking up as a just in case.
its not panic buying in his case its survival.

Already done. I've got around 36 days worth of food in my cupboards and freezer, bought a big box of cat food for my puss which should last a week and have just paid over the odds for another 4 boxes from Ebay which will hopefully arrive next week if I don't get ripped off. They're costing me 17.something each instead of a tenner each but needs must.

So I have enough food and cat food for over a month. The only thing I'm short of is bog rolls, only got 6 left.

My hot water is playing up too, have just texted my letting agents to tell them to get it sorted TODAY because it's only a matter of time before London is on a complete lockdown and their plumber won't be able to buy a new water heater.

In the UK the military do not have the 'shoot first, ask questions if they survived' attitude seen elsewhere...  Unless they are in a war zone :)

My google search of UK military crimes says otherwise, sir! Not that I want to deviate from the main topic, but your comment takes us in to nationalism with a comment that is misplace and pure fiction.

Strange, you brought up the topic of the military being in control....  and the doubts - try understanding the slant of your own posts before you talk about military crime >:)
You truly are a master of obfuscation, do keep it up :)

Yeah, I wouldn't want this thread to take a downwards turn being too critical of each other's military. Looks like they could be playing a part in helping the medical and policing bodies in the weeks ahead.

Also my comment about UPS and TNT was just a joke if any staff are reading :)

I'm impressed with UPS, my wife has her prescriptions shipped (not medications but other stuff) from the suppliers via UPS - same driver for the last year, friendly, fusses the dogs (always good) and cheerful, even when he has huge numbers of drops!

I get on really well with the TNT driver... this week's drop unfortunately was a multi-box delivery and 1 got separated back at the depot so had to cancel my dentist appointment to be home for the second drop... problem with TNT is they don't attempt to deliver to a neighbour (even when there isn't a pandemic) and you can't pick up a missed drop from the depot without prior agreement a few days in advance. They don't have location tracking of the truck either... just confirmation of each delivery stage so time estimates are always 'by 18:00' so you have to be home all day.

It's been a while since I had a UPS delivery tbh but I know DPD have all these things sorted. You get a map of where your delivery lorry is and even how many packages left to be dropped before yours.

Zen Im not taking offense man I know you better then that.
But your numbers are off you are refering to right after the storm and I am refering to a few mths later when we got the folks who did come back and would stay about 2-3 mths after the event.
The military also only worked with volunteers who had boats during the initial flooding.
After that was done we were a seperate entity barely working with the NOPD but working hand in hand with serch and reacue teams from across the nation as we went from house to house looking for the dead.

Its not a fault on your part info about that event and what took place because what is know was sketchy even the news had no ideas.
It was bad believe me there are stories folks simply wouldnt believe.

After that ill gladly stand in a pod handing out Toilet paper, Food, and cleaning supplies to folks who need them for this.
I will be washing my hands alot though!

DPD are definitely the best of the lot here in the UK. The worst has to be Yodel. I'm surprised that people still use them tbh with the amount of packages they seem to lose by dumping stuff on people's doorsteps when they're not in.

And I would gladly have you policing my neighborhood. But the other 100's of thousands of soldiers? All at the same time? Yeah, nah.

;)
