My Rift S vs Valve Index Experience now that I own both.
First off a special Thx to REVIVE for EZ game sharing.
First I had the Rift S and that was my 1st gaming experience in VR ever. Used it for 2 months and enjoyed over 15 games and movies/videos/SLR VR. When I first started thinking about the Index I would always say to others "for 999.99 i'm spending 600.00 more for different controllers and more setup (base stations) vs saving that 600.00 and buying more games and peripherals".
Then I bought the Index anyway.
Now I know what that 999.99 buys you.
1. Superior build design and comfort.
2. Clarity and Quality with custom resolution and manual IPD.
3. The most comfortable and interesting controllers for VR. Innovative indeed.
4. Sound quality and fidelity. They give healthy Bass and crystal clear sound quality, while floating over the ear reducing head thermals.
The Rift S for the price is EXCELLENT especially with the inside out tracking, but the Index is special.

Well Index lovers, it was my favourite VR headset but I think the Reverb might have it beat in some areas. It's quite a noticeable resolution bump playing it versus the Index. The controllers aren't as good obviously, and the colours don't seem as bold, audio is also not as good either at all then there is the lower refresh rate. However, no glare and a very nice crisp display despite a smaller area of focus and the lack of weight on the head  despite the heavy cable is quite pleasant. I feared the differences wouldn't be that massive but damn...they are.  When you look at something and just say, "holy shit" out loud then you know something is right.

Shadowmask72 may indeed be the first to answer that extremely interesting question!  B)

Reverb is just $500 now in the US HP Store, so that's 1.1K with Knuckles and 2 base stations, but I'm done scuba diving and Index sound is growing on me.

At $500 Reverb could be a real threat to both Rift-S and Cosmos.

Feels like the real beginning of VR, the previous 3 years were just a warm-up, lol.

I see 649 us dollars on the US store, where does it say 500 ? And steam VR will let you mix and mate headsets and controllers very easily now, provided you have base stations.

Why not - I'd be surprised if they don't. Seems like HP is aggressive with the $500 price and getting ready to conquer the world ;)

BTW, I just played Battlewake and Westworld, both games sometimes dip below 90 fps on my rig and the Index ss 100%. I'm still thinking you'll need at least 2080 Ti to drive the Reverb in 90 fps.
