Video card help needed

Hi. I'm almost finished ordering parts for an Oculus build. All I have left is the video card. I plan on getting a 980 Ti 6GB. I really wanted to get a Zotac 980Ti AMP! Extreme but it won't fit my case. Any help with a choice would be appreciated. Thanks, Grim

Well, there probably isn't a huge difference between brands in terms of performance.

Personally, I'm an EVGA guy, but they are all surely fine.

Gigabyte? Just coz it's the same brand as your MB.

Really I don't think the brand matters too much. Any of them on special or come with a free game you like?

One advantage of EVGA is their step-up program.

Thank you for that information. I did not realize that they had a step-up program to upgrade within 90 days of your purchase. That would be nice if I decided to go with a Pascal later.

Does anyone know of a good thread on the Pascal? I wonder if it is going to cause problems with the rift? Have they nailed down a release date yet?

What POS power supply is that. Are you mad? :o :P

If you gonna spend £1,500 / $2,500 on a PC, get a very good PSU.

There are plenty around, 650w single card / 850 dual card, gold or platinum certified, good warranty, good OEM. Superflower, evga, seasonic, Enermax. ect... OEM, Seadonic, Leadex, Enermax, or even Corair would be OK.

As for a case, Enthoo Pro comes highly recommended. As well as a Fractal R5 (which I have), NZXT H440, or corsair's which are very good also.

And for cooler, meh. I'd go with a hunk of metal like a NH-D15, although they aren't lookers.

I also run a EVGA 980ti ACX 2.0, not a classified. No complains whatsoever. I believe 5 years warranty? Super quiet, super fast. Also keep an eye on VR-specific cards ,(EVGA for the moment). Not a requirement, they don't add much, but a VR front panel would be nice.

And I have a Samsung 850 500GB. Nothing to report either.

If you want a colour matched card, can't go wrong with a G1.

I also run a EVGA P2 850W. 10 years warranty. Although would not recommend due to the weird cable arrangement (6+8 pin cables). If you use a 8+8 pin card, it's a hassle. Plus it's expensive and over-specced.

Finally, register your products with manufacturer ASAP, to earn the full warranty. Especially worth it with EVGA.

This information is actually very useful for me. I was very tempted to buy a 980Ti right now, it is good to know there is a possibility to upgrade it at a lower cost.

However, according to the official list from EVGA it looks like 980Ti VR Edition it is not a part of Step Up program. Too bad :|

Thanks for the advice on my system build and my POS PSU, obzen. It is indeed wise to go with a quality power supply and I will buy a new one. That one is from my old pc and you are right not to cut corners on an expensive build.

Thanks to everyone for their input. I think I will be shopping for a GPU until my oculus ships in a few weeks.

Just thought I'd post a good reference for video card comparisons I have been using for others that are making a choice.
