Question

Virtual Reality hits Politics directly

This is not meant to be a political discussion at all. Instead this should be a discussion about how virtual reality has become mainstream so quickly that it is now part of political rhetoric as a direct topic.

Not really that quickly, since the term "virtual reality" was coined over 25 years ago by Jaron Lanier.

There is a huge difference between coining a phrase, and having it become mainstream. Kinda like the difference between buying a Football vs becoming an NFL star player.

This thread was just a transparent effort for you to link to a partisan hack.

@cybernettr I know exactly how you feel about politics, and you have caused more than one thread to close. If you don't like the topic I presented then simply move along. I am not interested in your anyone's political viewpoint at all.

So am I really the only one who was excited to see Google Earth VR and Kingspray Graffiti VR discussed in an article regarding national foreign policy?

Well if I did jump the shark on this one then I do apologize. However, after so many months of reading multiple threads/comments/posts about how "VR will never be mainstream" or "maybe VR will be mainstream with 2nd Gen releases" ... I felt like this writeup just proved such sentiments wrong.

    Just me? lol

I didn't cause any thread to close. Anyway, the best proof that VR is mainstream is the fact that, in the space of just a couple of years, Oculus Rift, Sony PlayStation and HTC Vive have all come out with headsets competing in the same consumer space.  Add to that smart phone VR and the fact that you can now buy headsets at your local Walgreens, and I would say that VR has become pretty mainstream and it is going to remain that way!

Is VR mentioned in the John Oliver clip or only in the blog post?
I will watch the clip at some point, but I don't have 18 minutes to spend getting the answer right now, and I'm curious.

    Is VR mainstream:

    - PC VR?
    - Console VR?
    - MobileVR?

Which one of these has gained greater penetration in the market and which one is less like 360' or just "good" VR (let alone "amazing VR"!)
