Walking again with only one crutch!

WOOHOO! Virtual drinks are on me!
After almost a year of recuperating, I'm finally down to using a single crutch to walk! At this point in my rehab it's all about retraining my brain. My leg is now strong enough to support my weight, but my brain still insists that the leg isn't meant to do that. It's strange how one year can impact the brain so dramatically.

Virtual reality has helped me recuperate in ways that many of you may not realize.
Being unable to walk for nearly a year can be a depressing situation. During that time, the Rift allowed me to walk again, drive again, and run around killing zombies as if nothing had ever changed in real life. The Oculus Rift allowed me to LIVE again. It was a virtual life, but as you know, the mind accepts VR easily. A virtual footstep keeps that part of the brain active for the day when an actual footstep is possible, and the promise of room-sized tracking presents a perfect goal for me to get back on both feet before November (Do NOT let me down, V).

So the next step (no pun intended) is to graduate from crutch to cane, then the cane goes in the trash and I'm back on my own two feet. This has been the longest, and by far the most debilitating ordeal I've ever had to suffer, but I'm finally starting to see an end to all this. The Rift has gotten me this far. I'm genuinely excited to see what the future holds.

I could have a training regime to get you back on your feet.. no pun intended, in a day pretty much if you're up for it. Although, there are two outcomes.. you either get past the mental barrier or you die. Surprising how much both the mind and body can overcome when faced with death.

I should mention that while this may seem like a 4/1 joke, I'm completely serious.

You're going to try to run me over with your car, aren't you?
Well, as much as I appreciate the sentiment, I'll stick with the slower, old fashioned road to recuperation. At the rate things are moving now I should be right as rain in no time.

Actually, yes.. if you want to eat. Basic survival skills necessary. Drop you off about 100 miles from the closest civilized area, no electronics, no maps, only basic camping equipment. Up to you to make your way back. If you do, then you won't need your crutch anymore, if not, well..

You could, I guess.. at least I consider myself as a survivalist / prepper kind of person, except, not as crazy  My WTSHTF moments would be a) A tornado decides to demolish my house and I live through it, or b) I loose my job and become jobless/homeless.. that would suck, but yea, I could not only survive, but thrive, without relying on a sign on the road.

edit: As a side-note, my emergency bag that I have in my car as actually been quite useful. First aid supplies (highway/road accidents) have been used, as well as "overnights" at different store locations while I wait for them to open so I can fix their !@#%$ because my job seems to think that a tech should be onsite at 0230 in the morning when there isn't anyone to let the tech in until 0730  Fine.. sure, I'll go. Get out my sleeping bag and sleep in the car. At 0630, wake up, make some coffee and breakfast using my campstove / rations, brush my teeth and wash the face before the store opens. Fine, I'll do that, sure.. and I'll make sure I get paid for it too

    All the best to you.

shame we haven't cracked antigrav carpets yet. Then you could start at 0g and taper to 1g over a month or so, perhaps even push it out to 3g and increase protein input to enter "beast mode". :D
