Question

Would a bigger television get me back into Pancake gaming?

I really like VR, but the lack of AAA games is making me feel I also need to get back into pancake gaming. I currently have a 42" television and I'm just wondering if I get a 55" or 65" television, if this will get me more immersed in a game like VR does? Since VR came along I've struggled to get back into 2D gaming and there's some really good pancake games that will never come to VR.

So do you think a lager screen would get me more immersed in a game or not?

Dang..   none of glowing reviews seem to reflect what you guys are now reporting about Exodus. You guys think it can be patched with a reasonable effort, or is something just plain broken in the design?

    Minor spoilers:

I don't really think it's broken per say, it's just boring and doesn't really fit the Metro franchise. The area in specific I'm talking about is a wide open Desert area and it just tends to drag on. The story isn't very interesting (to me) and the missions are really repetitive. I don't have a problem with the Open world aspects overall but I feel like the game could have deleted that entire map and actually been better for it overall. Trying not to give spoilers to people who haven't played. If reviewers haven't said the same then they were probably paid lol. I've seen plenty of people complain about caspian on forums. You can even google a ranking of the maps in Metro and it will come in dead last for just about everyone. I loved the Volga which is the first area (excluding the tutorial), and it was open world and interesting. The final area is great. Taiga was cool looking but also had some things about it that annoyed me, it's got a twist to it that it's not really open world. I enjoyed the little Yamantau mini area also.

That would be a bit like patching out all the underwater stuff in Sub Nautica. :)

Metro 2033 and Last Light were mostly dark claustrophobic games set in russian subway tunnels with supernatural horror stuff (mutant monsters, telepathic beings, mind control, ghosts, etc). The rare times you were on the surface it was extremely dangerous, desperately trying to find gas mask filters on corpes before you choke to death, or running out of ammo fighting off swarms of watchmen.

Metro Exodus is mostly running around outside in the daylight with almost no radiation concerns (gas masks are rarely needed, and you can craft new ones at any time from random scrap you find).
Many hours of the game are basically Mad Max. Running around a desert trying to steal a fuel truck from a bandit gang.
The first big area was interesting, it was still dark and spooky even above ground, and the cult was cool. But the desert just went on too long.
The Ark part was great, back to cool underground stuff, but then it's back to sprawling outdoors.

I think Stalker handled the outdoor focus better. The environment was more interesting (anomalies, distorted stuff, creature a-life, blowouts, etc).

I understand this doesn't feel like a Metro game.. but I'm such a sucker for open world FPS, and I completed all the Far Cry games despite their repetitiveness, so I'm thinking I'll like this as long as the mechanics are solid

Just as Metro was getting good again, it ended. :(

I got one of the bad endings. There's at least 2 worse endings, but it was still pretty bad. I didn't hurt a single person or thing at Taiga. I avoided the blind ones without fighting. I freed people. I let surrendered enemies live. But that wasn't enough to appease Metro's morality judge. I guess it saw me posting on here and decided to punish me for not liking the desert level.

Yea I wish the end was a little longer too, that last area was awesome to me. Really took me back to the desperation of the first 2 games. I got the bad (good) ending too. You gotta pretty much play flawless and harmless to get the good ending. For me, that went out the window almost immediately lol.

In Metro I do tend to be fairly unforgiving when it comes to bandits, slavers, cannibals and nazis. Throwing knives or silenced magnum head shots from the dark for all of them, unless they surrender in time.

Yeah, entering Dead City definitely brought Metro back to it's roots.

I HATE games with crap endings!!! The worst I've ever experienced was the first Medal Of Honor game for the PC. I ended up blowing up the biological weapon that those naughty Nazis had developed which meant a mad rush back through the level and you needing to outrun the gas behind you which was catching fire. Fighting enemies as you're sprinting away.

Then you manage to jump on a train (if I'm remembering correctly!) to finish the game. So there I was, legging it, killing Nazis, left with just a whisker of health. Jump on the train. And I was expecting the usual obligatory very cool footage from the end of WWII with people celebrating that I've just single handedly won WWII.

    What did I get?

    A black screen

    With THE END.

I was fucking furious, what a let down :(

Yeah, they should have cut the desert part out and added a few more hours of stuff to do around the Dead City and then had you enter the inner city at the end. Would have taken a good game and made it great.

Just beat Metro Last Last tonight. Really great experience all around. I am fighting the temptation to jump start Exodus right away lol

I mean... I feel you. All the AAA quality goes to Pancake because VR entry at high quality is expensive and lets face it. Everyone has a Monitor... not everyone has a HMD.  The Games are starting to get better though. I think as more and more people get on board the quality will come with it. The Question is how do we make VR gaming affordable to the masses.  I am sick of waiting for a Horde Match in Dead and Buried.... I mean seriously its a free game and nobody plays it. :(
