2 step authentication conflict between App and SMS?

I was trying to login but chose receving a text message/whatsup but I have next received one with a code. I then selected to receive a code using the App but finally got in.

I checked my account settings. It looks App authentication is listed first and SMS is listed second. Does the meta automatically disable SMS is App is there? It is confusing and the login process is always a pain to me.

We see that you are having some issues with 2FA.

 

If you are using 2FA with us for the first time it should have asked you for your phone number after you have selected text message, as it needs a phone number to send the code too.

 

If it did not ask you for a phone number then you might already have put in your phone number when you where setting up 2FA, or something else, if this is the case, could you please check that the phone number provided is the same as the phone you are currently using, as this might be what happened.

 

2FA uses whichever method you chose when you were setting it up, having the app does not disable the use of SMS to receive the 2FA code.

 

We would suggest that once you are comfortable with receiving the 2FA code with your preferred method that you keep using that method as switching them regularly might be a problem.

Many thanks for getting back. An authentication app works well but I just couldn't receive a text code. I've never changed my mobile number for 2FA and it worked many months ago. I tried to update this number and the system says it is already registered.

Maybe I need to delete the mobile and add it in again ...
