Dont use glasses under your Quest 3!!

Hi all. Im quite angry about meta about this. Although they dont negate that you can play with glasses under your Quest 3 they should Not permit it or do Not recommend it in any Form instead of saying "yes you can" to get more buyers. Yesterday i scratched my lenses although i usted the spacer on max Level (4). Played some hefty round Dungeons of Eternity and after taking them of I noted the scratch. The glasses rubbed against the lenses. Now im lost with my Quest 3, about a month old, with a Scratch on the right lens without any support or warranty (scratched lenses are not covered nor was PLUS available in EU)

I know its my own dumb luck but im angry about Meta that they do not espacially inform about the Risks of using glasses although with Spacer on max, experiencing that the space is not really stable on lvl 4, feels like chinese craft or Bad design.

Simply saying you can use glasses but you should use inset lenses, without any repair service available is in my opiniรณn not User oriented and a bad informing without enfasing the risk.

From Personal experience. If you Love your Quest 3 DONT USE glasses under your Quest 3 if the Game has a higher pace or you have to incline you head much to different directions. The Spacer does not protect your lenses and you will Scratch them one day.

I've use glasses with all my oculus/meta headsets starting with a Rift cv1 and now a Q3.  I've never had any issues with my glasses scratching my headset lens.  My glasses are rimless Ti frames with high index lens (thinner/lighter) and measure 140x40mm.  The only time I used a supplied spacer was with my Q2, and that was really just to make the outer screen outline a little more rounded.  With my Q3, I started out with the spacing at max but now have it on the closest position and my glasses still don't even come close to contacting the Q3 lens.  The main thing I've found is that you need to try to initially place the headset squarely, face-on.  If you put it on angled up/down you can potentially contact the lens (= simple geometry).

If you looked at the startup info, including video on the meta support website, this should help.

In any case, I feel your pain mate.  All I can do is suggest you contact meta support and see i they can help you.  Good luck and cheers.

My glasses are also quite thin. 138x43 (inside the suggested margin) and normally there wasnt any problem. If i would assume maybe it happened while taking of the headset in a bad angle without pushing totally back the glasses on my nose before taking the VR off. So similar effect like you mentioned while putting on the VR.

In conclusion i think its not safe to you glasses with VR. Too many variables and no moderate repair options....

I was planning to get lenses for Quest 3 but hadn't the opportunity to renew my prescription until now. Like you suggested i contacted META but i do not have much hope because its not in warranty and in our zone there wasnt available META PLUS warranty.

I like the VR headset but didnยดt think it would be this problematic although following the manual letter by letter.

Gelrok  some people have found the use of plastic polish to remove the worst of the scratches. But you'll have to search the internet for good and bad experiences of using it.

I have read something about this but its a bad deal for Quest 3 using Polywatch because of the PanCake lenses. regarding the different posts. What it does, its removing de UV-Filter on the lenses. Its like you rubbing of some protective layers. And Plastic polish should be worse for the lenses leaving some milk like shading.

The headset designers should've made a raised bumper rail around the lenses, much like the aftermarket ones you can buy so that the lenses are always protected.

    Hi lashaa.2023 ๐Ÿ™‚

You could use prescription lenses for the headset, so you don't have to wear your glasses at all.
