Question

Finding Position in Room

I just began the process for my 4th RMA in under a year for the Quest 3s. I am trying to find some sort of explanation as to why this keeps happening.

the experience is the same:

Either mid-game, or upon start up, the headset will display β€œFinding Position in Room” and stop working. Without tracking, the error won’t go away and menus cannot be accessed. Once this error occurs, there is no coming back. I can boot in to the menu to factory reset, but  when the reset is complete the OS does not begin setup, likely due to a failed check for the motion sensor (my guess).

I have a Quest 2 that is still going strong. Used in the same environment, and with the same chargers. I have stopped playing for extended periods and playing while charging. I have tried to be extra careful with impacts or handling the system roughly. The previous two devices lasted only a month each, and that was after I already changed my habits because this was getting a bit ridiculous.

Did something change with the internal position of the motion sensor in the 3s compared to the 2? Is it more vulnerable to humidity, heat, or damage? What is causing this?

Any ideas? I am becoming a regular at the purolator in town at this point because the RMAs are becoming so frequent.

Hi Atarax1c πŸ™‚

If you do workouts or play games that makes you sweat a lot, sweat/moisture that found its way into the headset might be the culprit. It causes corrosion which lends to the black/grey screen/findin position in room error.

You can try, if a carefully used hairdryer(no heat) like shown in the video can solve your problem.

If you do sports and play games that cause you to sweat, buying a breathable face mask is a good idea.
