Question

Firmware Update Loop Bricked Multiple Controllers Across Two Headsets

I have an open case with Meta support and cannot get a satisfactory response from them. A firmware update was pushed to both of my metaquest 3 headsets and bricked all four of my controllers so both headsets are currently unusable. The only response I get from their support is that they are ~6 months out of warranty and they won't do anything other than try to sell me refurbished controllers.

I find this answer unacceptable. It's no coincidence that all 4 controllers go bad at the same time, their firmware push damaged my controllers and they are unwilling to accept responsibility for this. I've tried to get my case escalated to a manager and I get nothing but new support person telling me that they can sell me refurb replacements.

That's not good at all. Firstly be aware this is an open unsecured user forum so please edit your comment and remove your case number from the post for your own security. There are are no Meta employees monitoring this forum since the end of 2025, so nobody from Meta will see this. Unfortunately for all of us, out of warranty, means exactly that. You could try contacting a consumer rights organization in your country, but I wouldn't expect anything.

You may have already exhausted all possibilities but here is a link to some methods to talk to a human Meta support person directly.. Maybe if you approach it from different sides they'll help. Though with the warranty finished I wouldn't hold my breath. Good luck anyway! 🍀🤞

Thank you Maccyb123. I've exhausted every avenue I can think of, including live support. This is beyond frustrating.

What might save you some money if you're in the US, (and maybe Canada too) is contact Fix My Oculus, a very well respected 3rd party repair guy who doesn't charge an arm and a leg for repairs. https://www.fixmyoculus.com/

If you're not then maybe Google search for local repair options.

Anyway, I understand your frustration, and I hope you get it sorted out without costing too much.

Just a PS. I'm sure you've tried connecting the headsets to the Meta Quest Software tool on the pc which can repair faulty updates that might have bricked the controllers. Here's the link anyway!

Good luck! 🍀🤞

Yep, I did try the software update. Still no love with trying to pair the controllers. Other than buying new controllers (or refurbs) I'm out of options at this point. I don't understand how a company as large as Meta can have such disgustingly awful support.

I appreciate everyone's help, I've wasted wayyyy too much time trying to fix the issue myself. It's time to punt.
