In-app subscription bank verification timeout

I can buy apps without problem using my Master Card debit card, but when I try to start a free trial subscription, apps ask me to verify with my bank in the Horizon app. The horizon app starts verification, but the process never completes and I’m unable to start my free trial. 

anyone else seen this problem and if so, know the cure?

i tried using paypal as payment method but it still wants to verify with my bank and the exact same thing happens
