Locked out of my Meta account due to 2FA — no access to old phone number and no alternative verification option

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping someone from the Meta team can help me with an account recovery issue that I haven't been able to resolve.

I'm locked out of my standalone Meta Horizon account because two-factor authentication requires a login code sent to a phone number that has been permanently disconnected.

Here's what happens when I try to log in:

  1. I enter my account email address.

  2. Meta sends a verification code to my email, which I successfully enter.

  3. After verifying my email, I'm redirected to a screen requiring a login code sent to my old phone number.

  4. The screen does not offer a “Try another way” option or any alternative verification method.

I no longer have access to the registered phone number, and it cannot be recovered through my mobile carrier. I also don't have a headset where I'm still signed in to approve the login.

I've tried to resolve this through Instagram's settings, but I cannot change or disable the relevant two-factor authentication settings from there. I've also tried Meta Support, but I'm redirected to the relevant Help Centre, which tells me to select “Try another way” or approve the request on a signed-in headset. Neither option is available to me.

I still have access to the email address associated with the account and can successfully verify it. I'm willing to provide any reasonable information needed to establish ownership.

Could a Meta Community Manager or member of the account recovery team please advise whether there is a way to manually verify my ownership and reset my two-factor authentication?

I am not asking to bypass account security. I simply need an alternative way to prove that the account belongs to me because the only verification method offered is no longer accessible.

I've reached a complete dead end with the standard recovery process, and I'd really appreciate help from someone who can look into this specific situation rather than direct me back to the same instructions.

Thank you.

Hi @DigitalPotion2 🙂

You must contact Meta support

Scroll down and click on “orders and returns”, type something like “lost my 2FA” in the box, wait for the AI reply, then scroll down again and click on “this did not resolve my issue”, then select your product.

Now you get the option to contact Meta support via email, chat or WhatsApp.
