Question

META HORIZON!!!!

META, please add anti-theft protection and device location search, as devices are often stolen and we can't find them ourselves. And you, a giant company, can't ensure the security of your device.

My glasses were stolen. My account is on it, and I can see when it's online. I can't do anything about it, except offer a reset. It would be better if you could help me find its location!

That's a reasonable request.. It can already be done with mobile phones etc, and with location available on the glasses it should be easy to set up.

    please add anti-theft protection

That's what the lock code is for, and why Meta can blacklist stolen headsets.

    device location search

No can do. The Quest does not have GPS like smartphones do.

So add gps? what's difficult about this? Even if there is no gps, it is possible to track by IP on the last login to the network. You have to look for opportunities, and excuses. It's a big company that makes billons but can't provide security!

It's kinda late to add GPS to your stolen headset 🤣.

        Why Meta didn't include GPS

        1. No cellular radio = GPS is half‑blind

GPS alone only gives coordinates. To send those coordinates somewhere (like "Find My Device"), you need:

        • Cellular
        • Wi‑Fi
        • Bluetooth mesh

Quest 3 has none of the always‑on radios that tracking devices rely on. So even if it had GPS, it couldn't report its location unless it was:

        • Powered on
        • Connected to Wi‑Fi
        • Not factory‑reset

That makes it useless for theft recovery.

        2. Battery drain

GPS is one of the most power‑hungry sensors in mobile devices. Quest 3 already struggles to hit 2–3 hours of battery life. Adding GPS would cut that further.

        3. Heat and space constraints

The Quest 3 is tightly packed. Adding a GPS chip + antenna would:

        • Increase heat
        • Reduce internal space
        • Complicate RF shielding

Meta prioritizes performance and weight over extra radios.

        4. Privacy concerns

Meta already gets flak for data collection. A built‑in GPS would trigger a massive backlash. They intentionally avoid precise location hardware.

If a device location leads you to some high raise buildings with plenty of appartments, you  still won't be able to find it.

Go to the police! Let them do their job.

🎭 The Ministry of Lost Headsets

[Scene opens in a dimly lit office. A giant sign reads: "MINISTRY OF OVERLY DRAMATIC COMPLAINTS."]

Clerk (played by John Cleese): Next! State your complaint, preferably in a needlessly theatrical fashion.

OP (bursting in, waving arms): My Meta glasses have been stolen! A great injustice! A tragedy! A calamity of modern engineering! And Meta - a giant company that makes billions - refuses to install GPS, satellite tracking, thermal imaging, and possibly a small nuclear reactor in my headset!

            Clerk: Headset?

OP: Yes, glasses. Headset. Same thing. Both go on the head. Don't interrupt.

Clerk: Right. And what would you like us to do?

OP: FIND IT! Track it! Hunt it down like a rogue wildebeest! I can see when it's online, so clearly you should be able to triangulate its position using the moon, the tides, and the Wi‑Fi of nearby squirrels!

Clerk: Ah yes, the old squirrel‑based geolocation system. Very reliable. Except for the part where it doesn't exist.

[Enter Consultant #1, wearing a deerstalker hat.]

Consultant #1: Have you tried… calling the police?

OP: The police? Don't be absurd! I want Meta to deploy a global manhunt!

[Enter Visionary #1, carrying a large GPS antenna the size of a canoe.]

Visionary #1: Look, even if we did add GPS, it wouldn't help. The Quest has no cellular radio, no always‑on Wi‑Fi, no Bluetooth mesh, no carrier pigeons, no magical homing crystals-

            OP: So add them!

Visionary #1: To the one that's already been stolen?

            OP: YES!

Visionary #1: Right. I'll just pop into the thief's living room and solder it on, shall I?

[Enter Consultant #2, carrying a magnifying glass and a pipe.]

Consultant #2: Perhaps we could activate one of our Sherlock Holmes apps. Holmes and Watson could track your headset, apprehend the villain, and be home in time for tea.

            OP: Finally! Someone sensible!

Consultant #2: Of course, they only work if the headset is turned on, connected to Wi‑Fi, not factory‑reset, and not located inside a 47‑storey apartment building.

            OP: …So you're saying there's a chance?

[Enter MVP #1, wearing sunglasses indoors.]

MVP #1: Mate, even if you did get a location, what would you do? Knock on every door? "Hello, have you seen my glasses‑that‑are‑actually‑a‑headset?" Just call the police.

OP (dramatically collapsing to the floor): But Meta is a giant company that makes billions!

Clerk: Yes, and yet somehow they still haven't opened a Department of Psychic Headset Recovery. Shocking, really.

            [Everyone nods solemnly.]

Clerk: Right then. Case closed. Next!

[A man enters holding a toaster.]

Man: My toaster won't connect to Wi‑Fi.

Clerk: Ah! A reasonable request at last.

            [Curtain falls.]
