Question

Meta Quest 3 flickering white pixels

Had my meta quest 3 for a few days been playing primarily asgard's wrath 2. I had noticed on occasion that I would see these random lines of white pixels flickering on loading screens and occasionally in dark scenes.. It didn't seem to do it that much.. Welp.. Downloaded Into the Radius today and in dark parts of the game it is constant white flicking pixels.. I've noticed others are having this issue. And I saw where and admin said others need to make their own threads about this.. I'm affected by it too! It sucks. Really enjoying vr.. But this is totally immersion breaking and needs to be fixed.. I'm debating sending back my headset.. Is this really thay wide spread of an issue??

I have this problem with my Quest 2 for at least a year, and of course my Quest 3 is now also affected. Since the problem has been known for a long time, there are various threads about it here and support tickets have also been opened, but there has been no progress so far, I don't expect a solution in the near future.

Hey friends! We understand how pixels can get in the way of you enjoying the wonderful world of VR and all it has to offer. We are happy to assist each one of you with this issue. So that we can get a better understanding of what you all are experiencing, can you show us a picture of the issue while the headset is turned on? To take a picture of what you see on the headset's internal display:

  • Select a background in which the spot is most visible.
  • Place your headset on a flat, stable surface.
  • Cover the proximity sensor, located between the lenses, so that the display remains illuminated. As you will likely want both hands for taking your picture, use a piece of paper and/or tape to block the sensor.
  • Keep the lenses pointed away from external light sources, and do not use a flash.
  • The display backlight will provide sufficient illumination for the picture, and external light will only create glare off the lenses.
  • Get your camera as close to the lens as possible without actually touching the lens, so that you are taking a picture through the lens, not of the lens.
  • If the spot is very small or difficult to see in the picture, please circle the area in the picture where the spot is located to assist us in identifying the problem.

Once we review the issue more thoroughly, we will get back to you with further troubleshooting or options available to get this taken care of for you. Talk soon!

With all due respect, this is an exercise in futility. You guys know exactly what the issue is and you need to fix it or we’ll buy another VRHeadset that works properly. Enough is enough!

Hi Meta Quest support, I have recently had these issues as well and I followed your directions about the camera. These are stills I have taken from a video and circles the aberrations. I think it's of note that the issue seems to get worse under CPU strain. The issue initially occured when I was using passthrough and had a YouTube tab and a browser tab open. It apeared to be mostly lines that flashed white just stood out as artifacts separate from camera noise. Upon changing from passthrough mode to immersive. The issues still occured. This is when I decided to look online. It seems there are a few reports of it online as well. Notably this redit thread. I have the video and original screenshots of the frames if requested I'd be more than happy to share them. From my ameture experience it seems like the headset seems to have issues with tracking hands and keeping up with the CPU.

Hey there! Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We understand that having flickering pixels can be quite distracting. Therefore, we will be more than happy to look into this for you ASAP in order to get you back to a smooth VR experience. Can you please check the following?

   1. Confirm your PC compatibility. See Update your graphics card driver for the Oculus Rift S.

   2. How is your headset connected? Please make sure that the headset and primary monitor are connected to the same video card.
   -  Is an adapter or cable extender being used? If possible, remove any adapters from the headset. If your PC does not have enough of the needed ports (HDMI for Rift, Display Port for Rift S) and an adapter is needed, it is          recommended to use the adapter with the monitor instead of the headset whenever possible.
   - If you do not have the needed port on the video card at all, for example, on the AMD R9 295X2 (no HDMI port), an adapter will be needed. For Rift: A compatible adapter can be purchased from Amazon. The Rift S will come with a     display port-to-mini display port adapter.

   3. Disconnect your headset cable from the PC and from the headset, and inspect it for bent pins, frays, twists, and kinks.
Note: When reconnecting to the PC, you should connect the USB cable first, then the display port cable to the dedicated graphics card.
   4. Lastly, update graphics drivers.
        Nvidia Drivers
        AMD Drivers

Try the following and see if it does the trick for you, and let us know how it goes. Please don't hesitate to reach out to us again if the pixels persist, and we would be more than happy to continue to look into that for you. We can't wait to hear from you soon!!

Hey there! Thank you so much for letting us know the steps you have tried out and the issue you are facing. As this does happen when you are also connected with the PC, have you already tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Oculus PC software? Do let us know

I have not but I don't know how much this would affect as most of the occurances have taken place using the native headset software only. I can certainly try it but as most issues happen when I am not connected to my pc I feel unsure of the impact it would have on the standalone performance.

I have the exact same issue on my new quest 3, for me most notably when video streaming from the browser or apps in passthrough mode, especially when there’s not a lot of light. Luckily it is rare in games or non passthrough mode but it’s still annoying. It definitely happens more often in darker environments and it’s also a lot more noticeable because of the white points against dark background. Judging by the amounts of posts about this issue and  the fact that there is still no fix I’m not holding out my hope but I still want to follow this thread in case anything does change

I'm having the exact same issue on my quest 3. Random flickers of white pixels or lines. Headset has never been dropped and is basically brand new. This occurs in random games/apps and is way too quick to get a picture of. Commenting so I can follow the updates on this thread/issue.

Hi dark , all I can tell you is , it seems to be a quest resolution framerate issue that they have been working on . So far my two quest 3 does it when all it’s black but when it’s reddening or streaming a video . So don’t worry , your quest isn’t damage it’s just a software side issue.

I've been having this issue and following this topic to see if it gets fixed. The support here sucks as never give useful remedies. The good news is the latest update v71 seems to have finally fixed it for me. So nice of the support here to inform people.
