After the recent update, my cursor constantly flashes the working in the background circle. In task manager 'Meta Quest Remote Desktop.exe flashes then suspends followed by a windows problem reporting and repeat. I uninstalled the software and reinstalled it from the website and the issue started up again as soon as the install was complete. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Delete 'RemoteDesktopCompanion.exe' from Program Files/Oculus/Support/oculus-remote-desktop

I've been sick and tired of RemoteDesktopCompanion burning up my internet bandwidth and constantly getting reinstalled by the Meta Quest Link app every chance it gets, so I think I may have an alternate and potentially more permanent solution compared to renaming/deleting the file, since doing that ultimately triggers the app to auto-update itself sooner or later even if no actual version update has been made.

I went into the RemoteDesktopCompanion EXE file properties, went to the Security tab, and denied every access it was allowed in every profile, save for Administrator. This in turn is preventing me from going back and easily reversing what I did, but it's also stopped the OVRService from executing it.

Since I'm on a Rift S, RemoteDesktopCompanion is useless to me and I don't want it constantly sending who-knows-what-data to Meta every second of every day. I've been monitoring my Windows Event Logs, the files present in the "Program Files\Oculus" folder, as well as files on the root of my C drive, and so far this solution isn't presenting any weirdness in terms of overrunning logs, countless files being created, or generating numerous events or such. Past solutions I tried such as blocking the program for contacting Meta resulted in constant relaunching of the program, but by denying it access to even attempt to execute the program seems to be convincing OVRService not to continue trying. :)

Until the next proper update of the Meta Quest Link software though, I won't know for certain if this change to the Security profiles will stick or not; low-level stuff like this can be surprisingly clever about adjusting/changing their Security parameters. :P

Somehow the bug started again in April or May of 2026... freakin RemoteDesktopCompanion.exe keeps bugging out and freezing other software on windows...

I tried contacting support cause im sick of deleting that **bleep** file every week or so... but support is completely useless when it comes to the actual software or bug report...

I am now up to over 20 times that I deleted the file since December 2024... the good part is that I no longer need to stop the service... I can just delete/rename the file, then end the RemoteDesktopCompanion process and the bug immediately goes away!

Still sucks that it occurs so often with every silent update that it keeps pushing without my conscent...
