Meta Quest update button not doing anything after PTC V66

Im on ptc v66 and I got the update for the official rollout of v66. When I click update the download progress pops up for a second and goes away. The button to update is greyed out and stuck “updating…” I’ve let it sit for quite a while. Reset several times and nothing. If you leave update and go back it has the option to update now again. Resets do nothing

Hi everyone! 👋 I hope you're all doing well. I have some great news to share from our Internal team. It seems that the issue has been resolved! Now, to get things back on track, it would be recommended to reboot your headset. You can find the step-by-step instructions on how to do it successfully at this link here. It's super helpful and will guide you through the process smoothly. If you're still facing any problems, shoot a private message to MetaStoreHelp. They'll be more than happy to help and take a closer look into the matter for you.

Don't worry be happy.

Same exact issue.  Been on updating for 25 minutes, tried it twice.  And it always goes back to update option when I leave screen and come back.  Restart and reboot doesn't help.

I feel like the dude in Mallrats, yelling when do I get to see the sailboat?! I’ve tried restarting so many times and nothing.

LMAO Exactly!
I keep trying to decide when I want to hit update again, because once I do, I will sit unmoving, staring at the greyed-out "updating" button for way longer than I should.

I’m not on the PTC and got the option to update today. Same exact issue. It would begin the process of updating then immediately switched to the greyed out button saying “Restart to apply”. Tried different WiFi networks and still no dice. This was starting to irritate me a bit because I’d been waiting for v66 for a week now and wanted to see if I could get the warping fix sooner rather than later. Grew impatient and did a factory reset. Now my headset is stuck on the update portion of the initial setup and the progress bar indicates “Over an hour remaining” and does not advance any further. I also can’t complete the setup without the update completing so now I’m stuck with what is essentially a paperweight. Lesson learned on exercising patience. Hopefully Meta Support can chime in here with some potential fixes as I have lost all functionality of the device at this point lol.

That sucks, do a search for “update stuck”. I saw a few threads giving tips on this when I was looking for a solution earlier. Different problem than we initially had but hopefully you find a fix. I unticked the tab for the PTC, was given the option to update immediately. Updated and, I have zero of the new features I was waiting for. Maybe we got a bad server.

I'm having the same problem. Spent the last couple of hours trying to figure out how to fix it. Giving up for tonight. Hopefully Meta will do something about it tomorrow.

I can't believe this issue came up yesterday and there hasn't been any official announcement yet.

I have the same problem, I press the "Update Now" button and when I go back to the menu it tells me to update the Quest to v66 endlessly.

I have the same issue, I did a factory reset and that doesn't help, the issue remains. When you press update it seems to glitch briefly and then it shows installing but is not doing anything. If you leave the page and come back the update button switched back from updating to update.

after checking on the glitch it shows briefly "Software update 83,37 kb/7,61 MB" anbd then it goes to updating.. and nothing happens

yup, that's the exact same issue. Guess we are just stuck waiting longer. This whole staged rollout of updates is for the birds.

Same to me. The update didn´t start.

I have the exact same issue, it's a shame I factory reset my headset before seeing other people are having the same issue and now I'm softlocked out of my Quest 3 because it tries to download the update saying "over an hour remaining" and never making any progress. I'll just have to wait for facebook to fix it ig.

I was fighting this for hours last night. Kinda glad to see I'm not the only one having issues, but I'm sorry for everyone in the same boat.

As others responding here, I am NOT enrolled in Quest PTC.

I'll describe what I'm seeing in hopes that the number of reports and descriptions of behavior helps devs pinpoint and resolve the issue quicker. Also to help others find this thread and know they are not alone. I have seen descriptions that don't exactly match my observations and some that sound similar, but here is what I have encountered:

In System -> Software update:

  •  Software update (V66) 257 MB is described and the "Update now" button is active
  • Clicking "Update now" triggers the "Update software version" modal with the options to Cancel or Continue
  • Clicking Continue causes a VERY brief download indicate (1 frame in my screen recording) that says Software update: 4.40kB/257MB
  • Download indicator is replaced by "System Version 49941090063600510"
  • "Update Now" button is replaced by a grayed out (inactive) "Restart to apply" button

Leaving this page by any method (navigation or system sleep) causes it to reset and start with first described state.

Shutting down with the option to update prior to shutdown triggers the update indicator for about 1 second, then shut down proceeds without an update.

Restarting manually does not result in any different behavior.

It occurs to me that we could just be overloading the update CDN, it would be nice if that's all it is, but somehow I doubt it.

In reference to 404.invalid.syntax, if you use the factory reset option next, your Meta Quest device will have to go through an initial update, which will MAKE IT IMPOSSIBLE TO USE THE HEADSET since it will not be able to download the update.

I'm not on PTC and same here. Thanks to 404.invalid.syntax for the very precise description. Hope we will get a solution from devs...

Not a solution - Marking for visibility

Hello everyone!

I've observed that many users are experiencing an issue with the Quest update button being grayed out, leading them to reboot their headset. I have taken the lead in informing our teams about this issue. I want to thank all those who have shared their reports and participated in the discussion.

We would greatly appreciate if everyone could please provide the following information:

  1. What's the full version number of your headset? (65.0.0.####### or likewise)
    • Quick Settings > System > Software Update
  2. What's the full version number of your PC app? (65.0.0.####### or likewise)
    • General > Scroll down to the bottom of the page.
  3. Is your PC app on PTC?
  4. Are you enrolled in Quest PTC?
  5. Any potential workarounds?
  6. Which headset is this happening to?

I'll do my best to keep you all updated as soon as I find out anymore information!

Don't worry be happy.

Quest OS: 65.0.0.546.341.596219110

device: Quest 3

not in PTC.

I haven’t seen any workarounds. Tried using VPN on router to simulate being in different parts of the world to see if it was an update server issue. That didn’t work.
