Question

OVRLibraryService not running - set to manual via client install, will not run when attempted

So, after a torturous attempt to get my Oculus client reinstalled recently (see my prior post) I'm now facing another problem. The OVRLibraryService is not running. This means my library is not updating.

The default state of this service is that its been installed with a Startup Type of 'Manual'. So will never run on boot. Attempting to run the service manually throws an error dialog..

Checking event viewer, the following is displayed...

The Oculus VR Library Service service terminated with the following service-specific error:
There are no more files.

The client was installed via my user, who's a local admin.

Does anyone have any ideas?

 Oculus VR Library Service service

Found out it's default behavior , keep it on manual.

It does not need to be started, regardless of what the details says.

I came across it and thought it was the cause of my Oculus Link cable not detecting. Turns out I have a bad Oculus Fiber $$$  cable.

Hey everyone!

Shoutout to officialjordan for catching my attention. The OVRLibraryService error pops up from time to time and we have a few ways of getting it under control. The first and simplest way is to "repair" the app, here's a link with a quick breakdown of that.

If repairing your app doesn't work, a complete removal and clean install of the software will work 99.9% of the time. Here's that breakdown:

1. Disconnect the Rift/Link cable from the computer.

2. Disconnect your computer from the internet.

3. Backup any necessary content.

   • You can find steps on how to do so by clicking here.
4. Reboot into Safe Mode.

5. Uninstall Oculus PC app using the Control Panel.

6. Delete all Oculus folders from the following folder:

   • C:\Program Files
  7. Remove any Oculus folders from the following locations:

   • C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData
   • C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\Local
   • C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\LocalLow
   • C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\Roaming
   • C:\OculusSetup-DownloadCache
8. Restart your computer in normal mode.

9. Reconnect your computer to the internet.

10. Install Oculus PC app again using the setup tool from our website here.

11. Reconnect the Rift/Link cable and re-test the headset.

And finally, if that doesn't work you can always try reaching out to support for some one-on-one assistance. Here's one last link to get you in touch with them through email or chat. They'll have some more questions for anyone who reaches out, so if possible have your most recent logs saved to your desktop and ready to share.

I hope you're all able to get into your accounts soon! 🤙

I'm mainly posting this for anyone that finds this thread like I just did. There are also stored files under C:\Windows of Oculus and OVR name. Check the C:\Windows\Prefetch folder. If you find any that say OCULUSCLIENT or OVR, go ahead and delete them.

Hey Vrgear, i found the cause to the problem, its

The program deleted itself, you can probably find the logs of it and when it did it, C:\Program Files\Oculus

I'm stuck with this.

Reinstall - no luck.

Remove/clean/install - no luck.

dism/sfc - system is ok...

Always

[LauncherService] Watched process D:\Oculus\Support\oculus-runtime\OVRServer_x64.exe died with n! m relaunches remaining.

All was ok until I updated application to a latest version. Now I can't Link.

I've spent about 18 hours to find what's wrong. My head is like a watermelon now.

Finally. If someone stuck with same error and nothing helps - check Quality Windows Audio Video Experience (QWAVE) service. It must not be disabled!

Meta! You can check this service at installation and enable/warn! And make a dependency of this service!
Then people will not throw their hours and hours of life.

- Oculus VR Library Services still not running (still showing error message like in the 1st post)

- Stuck in Checking Sensors inside the apps

Hey there, boskovic234, and we appreciate you attempting the steps provided by @letsmakegoodthings. We definitely want to make sure you're able to access the PC app without any hiccups, so we'd be happy to work with you to take a closer look!

If you haven't already, AsgardsFinest also offers a great alternative option to uninstalling the PC app with the following steps:

  1. Disconnect the Rift/Link cable from the computer
  2. Disconnect your computer from the internet
  3. Backup any necessary content
  4. Reboot into Safe Mode
  5. Uninstall the Oculus PC app using the Control Panel
  6. Delete all Oculus folders from the following folder:
    • C:\Program Files
  7. Remove any Oculus folders from the following locations:
    • C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData
    • C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\Local
    • C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\LocalLow
    • C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\Roaming
    • C:\OculusSetup-DownloadCache
    • Note: The AppData folder is usually hidden. Use these steps to access AppData.
      1. Press Windows key + R to launch the Run dialog window.
      2. Type %AppData% in the Run box and click OK or press Enter
      3. File Explorer will launch to the AppData\Roaming subfolder.
      4. Click AppData in the File Explorer address bar to show all three subfolders in the AppData location.
  8. Restart your computer in normal mode
  9. Reconnect your computer to the internet
  10. Install the Oculus PC app again using the setup tool from our website here
  11. Reconnect the Rift/Link cable and re-test the headset

Once completed, do let us know how things continue to appear. If any issues remain, we'd like to gather your PC specs.

I've been having the exact same issues, also have tried all steps above, reinstalling twice, even enabling that service, everything. It still will not work.

The very first time I have installed the oculus app, it was able to start up correctly. Then I set both oculus services to manual: One pc restart later, nothing worked anymore, even when setting them back to automatic!

Ive done a registry cleanup of everything that had "oculus" in it, ive deleted every file that had "oculus" in it, it simply will not work anymore

Hi there, ffox! Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We understand how this can slow down your ability to enjoy awesome VR experiences, so we would love to look into this and get to the root of it. With that being said, can you please try installing the desktop app on a different user account on the same PC if you are still having trouble attempting to install it on a completely different PC and let us know how it goes? If the issue persists, don't hesitate to reach out to us so that we may continue to look into it for you. We look forward to hearing back from you soon!

Hey, so I actually just accidentally figured it out.

I installed in on my Z drive to save space, That's when it stopped working.
Oculus must be installed on your default C drive. If it isn't, follow these instructions then reinstall it on the proper drive. Also, Disable Quality Windows Audio/Video Service. if you do not know how, it is where you would find the OVR Library Service.

To find qwave:
- Press Windows + "R"

- Type in "services.msc"
- Scroll until you see the service name, and disable it.
