Quest 2 Bricked by Update: Support Demands $149.99 Due to Outdated Sideload File (SPL Mismatch)

Hello

I am posting here as a last resort because my retail Quest 2 has been completely bricked by a mandatory automatic software update, and support is refusing to issue a courtesy replacement unless I pay a $149.99 fee.

My device is trapped in a permanent Meta logo boot loop. I worked extensively with support  and they directed me to use the manual ADB Sideload tool to flash a recovery file.

The file transfer reaches 48% (1.00x) successfully on my computer, but the headset bootloader instantly aborts with a Status 1 / SPL Downgrade block. The recovery logs explicitly show:

  • Current SPL on device: 2026-06-04 (June 2026)
  • Target SPL of support's file: 2024-07-05 (July 2024)

Support has officially admitted to me via email that the 2024 recovery file is the only package available to their frontline team, and they do not have a newer file that can bypass the security block.

Because my headset was working flawlessly until a Meta software payload broke the system partitions, and because support literally lacks the updated software file to fix the problem they caused, it is incredibly unfair to demand $149.99 for an out-of-warranty hardware replacement.

I am a loyal Meta user and my hardware looks brand new. I am asking a community manager or supervisor here to please review my case logs and help me secure a courtesy replacement headset brick so I can continue utilizing the Horizon marketplace.

Device Serial Number:

Model Revision: Hollywood (DVT batch from Best Buy)

Active Boot Slot: Locked to B

Firstly, be aware this is an open unsecured public forum with users only. There are no Meta community managers or moderators here. Please edit your message and remove your device serial number and case number ASAP, as you are compromising your own security. Someone could use that information to try to claim ownership, etc. Also beware of anyone trying to contact you via private message on the forum claiming to be from Meta and offering to help. They will be scammers.

As users we have no imput into warranty replacements etc.. You will need to contact Meta official support through your Horizon app on your phone or through the Meta website.

Here is a link to various methods of contacting Meta. Sorry, we cannot offer more than that.
