Quest 2 Bricked by Update: System SPL Downgrade Block (Status 1 / Error 29)

Hello,

My retail Quest 2 is trapped in a permanent Meta logo boot loop following a mandatory automatic software update.

I attempted to restore the device using the official manual ADB Sideload tool. The file transfer completes on my Mac, but the headset instantly aborts with a Status 1 / SPL Downgrade block.

The recovery logs explicitly show:

  • Current SPL on device: 2026-06-04 (June 2026)
  • Target SPL of support's file: 2024-07-05 (July 2024)

Support confirmed their frontline team only has access to this outdated 2024 recovery zip and cannot provide a 2026 file to match my headset's security patch level. 

Has anyone successfully bypassed this date-lock, or is there anyone here who can provide a link to a current v76/v77 firmware package?

  • Model Revision: Hollywood (DVT)

You've just posted a question already. Try to keep everything to one post to avoid being flagged as spamming. As for your problem, I'm not sure anyone can help with this.

OK, no worries, you can't delete it, but you can edit it, change header to  posted in error and just delete the text of the full comment.
