Quest 3 UI Feedback: Persistent Chat Overlay Glitches and Menu Navigation Issues
I’ve been a Quest user for a while now, and I need to voice my frustration because the software on the Quest 3 is starting to feel completely horrid compared to the flawless system we used to have. It feels like ever since Meta shifted all their excitement and engineering resources toward AI, the actual VR gaming experience has been left in the dust.
Here are the specific, glaring issues making the headset incredibly frustrating to use right now:
The Texting Menu Freeze: Whenever I am in a game and open a text chat to message a friend, the white Meta bar gets permanently stuck on the screen. It completely locks up the inputs. I’m stuck staring at the game but I can't access the in-game menus or play until I force-refresh the system. The only workaround I've found to unfreeze it is to constantly double-tap into passthrough and back, which is a ridiculous glitch to deal with just for sending a text.
The Horrible New "Spatial" Layout: Trying to emulate Apple's Vision Pro desktop menus has ruined the simplicity of a gaming headset. What used to take one simple button press now requires clicking and navigating through multiple clunky steps just to get to one basic thing. It’s a gaming console, not a desktop, and the new interface is a massive step backward.
Disabled Home Invites: We used to be able to invite friends directly into our Home environment, turn on passthrough, and seamlessly hang out together in our real rooms. Now, that feature is completely stripped out or grayed out because Meta overhauled the engine and expects us to use Horizon Worlds instead.
Glitchy Avatar "Bubbles" in Worlds: When I actually do go into Horizon Worlds to meet up with friends because Home invites are broken, half the time the asset servers fail. My friends can’t even see my avatar—they just see a floating placeholder safety "bubble" or a ghost.
Your device hardware is amazing, Meta, but the software is actively falling off. Stop over-engineering the menus to chase competitors and stop ignoring core VR features for AI. Please fix the multitasking focus glitches and bring back the seamless gaming features that worked perfectly two years ago.
