I'm not sure what you're expecting from pass-through on the Quest 3s but the cameras are not exactly high quality. It will be grainy and a bit washed out. I've a 3s myself. Btw making a video will only show what is recorded, not what your eyes can see. I Imagine the Quest 3 pass-through would be better. Here is the difference. I suppose you could get the Quest 3 if you want better quality pass-through. 🤷

  • Pancake Lenses vs. Fresnel Lenses: The Quest 3 uses advanced pancake lenses, offering edge-to-edge clarity and eliminating the "sweet spot" issue. The Quest 3S relies on older Fresnel lenses, meaning the pass-through image will blur significantly toward the edges of your vision.
  • Higher Display Resolution: The Quest 3 feeds the pass-through feed onto dual displays with 2064 \times 2208 pixels per eye. The Quest 3S features a lower-resolution single display (1832 \times 1920 pixels per eye), making text and fine details in your environment look softer and harder to read.
  • True Depth Sensor: The Quest 3 includes a dedicated time-of-flight depth sensor for precise, automatic room mapping and more stable mixed reality object placement. The Quest 3S removes this sensor to cut costs, relying purely on its cameras for spatial software estimation, which can result in slightly more warping or distortion as you move around.
