Rename device with Oculus Quest 2

Hi,

we have purchased a big amount of Quest 2 for a client and would like to rename the devices as they appear all with the same name "Quest 2" when you want to stream one of them.

Is there any way to rename them? Quest2-01 for example

Thanks in advance

Hi there, that's a great question! At this time, renaming devices is not a feature that is offered. If this is something that you would like the engineers to take into consideration, we encourage you to head over to our Ideas Forum. The fact that this is still not resolved is fairly absurd. Why would you not solve a problem that makes it easier for users to have more of your devices? So we continue to buy more devices? This seems like a very silly oversight for such a forward-thinking company. I hope someone at Meta starts listening to customers. I have seen hundreds or requests for this on dozens of forums.

yeah, just create org, download app to pc, connect device to pc, go to device log... Jesus !@#$!@.

Renaming a device is about the first thing you want to do if you have two devices in your house, especially since so many things are performed via the mobile app.

Actually, you can rename them in the meta app you can see which heat]dset is which. You need to create an organization HERE and after that, download the software from here on your Windows PC. After setting it up, plug your headset into your computer, wait for the hub to connect to it, and click on the gear icon next to your headset, next to Device Logs. It will open up a screen showing your headset. Under General, you will see "Device Nickname" with a button that says Change. Click change, rename your headset anything you want, and then save. You have now renamed your headset and it will reflect the change in the Meta App. You might have to restart headset if you don't see the name change right away.

Thank you! This was making me insane

I'm at the Device Nickname section in MQDH and the CHANGE button is inactive with a little note saying "connect device to MQDH"... I'm missing something obvious but I don't know what. Any ideas?

Did you happen to turn on dev mode via the meta app? I believe that you need to enable dev mode before anything can be done.

Not sure if this helps but when you try to connect to a Bluetooth device, if you click on the device name to edit it’ll let you there. Haven’t tested further than that but maybe it’d rename in app too?

I followed the instructions, and now the device nickname is shown in MQDH and in the phone app (after tapping the toplevel "Meta Quest 2" button on the Explore screen), but the Oculus desktop app still shows it as "Quest 2 and Touch". Should I forget it and re-pair it, or will the desktop app always use the generic name?

Because really the name in the Oculus desktop was my primary reason for wanting to remake it...

well, that explains why it's so hard to memorize and use the codes to work out which headset is which, the website and the app report different numbers for the headsets. let us rename them, and use the nickname in both the app and on the website...

We also have a large number of devices and making them unable to be named frankly makes it very very hard to manage the devices

The MQDH method is really a solution for developers only. I agree there should be something for general users.

I also got the message that says "Connect the headset to MQDH to update its nickname" even though it is connected to MQDH and it literally says "active" right above that message. I was able to do a bunch of other things with the headset through the hub. I started link, transfered files, used performance analyser, used app distribution, sent adb commands, and it still did not think it was connected for the purposes of changing the name.

I have to think this is a bug at this point, but in the end I was able to get it to work but I don't really know how. I have narrowed it down to what I think it is though. In every device I was able to connect, it worked some time after I opened the phone app and connected to the device from the phone. It didnt work right away but it seemed to allow me to change the name a few minutes after I connected to the phone. That is why it was hard to verify if that was actually what the solution was. If this is the solution then it seems like the message might be wrong. It should say "Connect the headset to the phone app to update its nickname"

Oh and I also wasted a bunch of time after I renamed it waiting for the nickname to show up in the devices list on the phone. The nickname does not show up in the devices list (where it would be most useful) it does show up in the app after you tap the device in the list.

Any update on this? We just need an alias for the desktop and mobile apps. There's no way, as a software developer myself, this would be a hard feature to implement. You could do it on the front end and keep IDs the same on the back end. Come on guys!
