Question

View turning 180 degrees on Quest 3

For a few days the view on my Quest 3 has been suddenly turning to the opposite direction every now and then. This occurs in all games. Is this a software bug or a hardware error? What can I do to fix it? There have not been any problems like this before on my Quest 3.

Like does it freeze in place, locking the now-turned image in place until you restart your headset, or does it just move you inside your boundary? If the first one is the case, then that's a hardware crash. Nothing you can really do about it

Hi, I'm Aech. Stupid moth and total nerd in VR owning 3 headsets including Meta Quest 2/3 and PSVR2.

No, it doesn't freeze in place at any point and doesn't need a restart. When I look forward everything is ok. But when I look back 180 degrees, the view turns and shows the view forward. And when I look forward again, the view turns and shows the view backwards.

Restart doesn't help. The problem continues also after restart.

Hello Eilien2.2023, thank you for sharing this with us. We understand that you are having issues with the Meta Quest 3 where the view turns 180 degrees on the device.

The issue of your Quest 3's view randomly rotating 180 degrees is likely a software bug, possibly related to tracking or guardian calibration, rather than a hardware problem. You can try resetting your guardian, restarting the headset, or adjusting the environment lighting and cleanliness to see if it resolves the issue.

- To adjust your boundary modes or redraw your boundary:

  • Press Meta button/ Oculus button on your right controller to open the universal menu.
  • Select the clock on the left-hand side of the universal menu to open Quick settings.
  • Select  Settings in the top right, then select  Environment setup.
  • Select Boundary, then select Adjust boundary.
  • From here, you can draw a room scale boundary or adjust your stationary boundary.

- Adjust the environment: Ensure your play space is well-lit, free of reflective surfaces, and that nothing is obstructing the view of the cameras.

- Restart the headset:

  • Press and hold the power button for at least 30 seconds.
  • Wait 30 seconds.
  • If your headset doesn't automatically turn back on, press the power button until your headset has turned back on.
