What happened to "Laying Down Mode"?

I seen in a YouTube video that Laying Down Mode was coming to the quest in v53, but this feature did not appear.

What happened to this highly anticipated feature? Is it still coming in a future release? According to the YouTube comments I am not alone in wanting this feature badly.

Hey there! Yes this still will come through however, it was placed for a bit through this version. Engineers wanted more time to work on this and it will be added later on.

We are all mad here.

Nobody cares about excuses. Meta removed Chromecast support before adding it back in short order. So complaining is clearly the only way anything seems to get accomplished at a multi-billion dollar company. It really isn't a complex feature to provide people and clearly many people were happy with whatever beta/dev implementation was provided before it promptly yanked out in the very next update. But I guess Meta must know what is best for it's customers 😆

Complaining works only indirectly. Meta is a corp, which by literal definition means they don't care about ANYTHING except maximizing shareholder value. To think anything else is just misapplication of anthropomorphism (or falling for their "we care" PR message, aka "drinking their cool-aid"). Any change that comes, comes as a means of making more profits/value. Hence, the way you get them to respond to customer needs is to make it cost them money. Complaining may do that by costing them sales of new product, so certainly we should do that. But a much more direct path is just return their half functioning garbage and let everyone know (complain). It not only costs them the sale, they have to process the return, refurbish, resell at a lower point (hopefully at a loss). And, having done so makes your complain carry far more weight with those that see it, costing them even more. To do anything else is to just stomp our feet with impotent anger.

It's mind-boggling that folks working on VR haven't figured out that humans aren't always upright. This isn't a niche feature, it's like designing a keyboard that you can't use with your left hand.
