White horizontal stripe across screen while using link

Headset seems to work fine stand-alone.  I use the headset with IRacing, and often (not always) get a translucent horizontal stripe across the screen after about 15 minutes or so.  It doesn't feel like the headset is overheating.  This doesn't show up on the screen mirror on PC, or if I "mirror" with the debug tool.  Is this likely a failing display or is there somewhere else I should look?

UPDATE: POSSIBLE WORKAROUND/FIX USING REGISTRY EDITOR

As I theorized above, this issue does NOT occur for those who use Air Link. Air Link uses HEVC and uses 1 slice for its encoding, whereas wired Link uses H.264 and 5 slices for encoding. Whenever the white bar issue occurs, it is very likely the final 5th slice experiencing an error in the encoding. If you pay close attention when this occurs, you will likely notice it only occurs in the bottom slice of the screen.

To use this workaround, open Command Prompt and use the following:

  • reg add "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Oculus\RemoteHeadset" /v "numSlices" /t REG_DWORD /d "1" /f

I will be experimenting with this for the next few weeks to make sure  I do not get the white bar issue!

Original Post on REVISITED thread:

I have noticed that this is related to the horizontal encoding slices that are visible only through the Link Cable. A very easy stopgap solution would be to offer a toggle in the OculusDebugTool that allows us to turn OFF these encoding slices. Additionally, the encoding slices do not appear with Air Link and thus the issue has almost never occurred wirelessly according to both personal experience and these threads.

Bonjour,

Cordialement.

Honestly I'm not entirely sure why that problem is happening. My best guess is the following:

If it's a failing screen, then you should encounter the issue outside of Oculus Link/Steam VR. If not, then it's most likely not this.

it could be a failing screen. I haven't seen anyone bring that up in this thread before. I believe you can use the included (charging) cable that comes with your Oculus Quest. If it solves your issue, then I would advise you go out and buy a new cable, preferably from Oculus themselves, or a reputable 3rd party like Anker (Oculus themselves "recommended" them).

If all else fails, all I can recommend is trying to install the latest drivers for your GPU, CPU, etc. and seeing if that solves your problem. It never hurts to try.

If you still have issues after troubleshooting, I'd advise you contact Oculus Support and try to get further assistance.

Bonjour,

Hello,

Yes let me know what Oculus support answered, they should what the problem is.
Give them the link of this topic, they will see that some other users have the same issue, they will have pictures of the issue, and information about what we noticed.

Picture of what I had in my Quest 2 after a few minutes playing Dirt Rally 2.0
Usually it was grey, but sometimes that pink color.

Hi,
Yesterday evening the system requested an update, and I could not refuse it.
The headset is upgraded to version 25.0.0.72, on the PC the
Oculus App Version is 25.0.0.57.658.
This afternoon I launched Dirt Rally 2.0 and the problem is there again.
It's 100% sure that the problem is linked and came back just after this update.
It's very painful.
Please, Oculus do something, something is buggy.

I recently changed my case and increased the airflow, specifically the GPU now has fans blowing air at it. My GPU temperature is much lower now during load, and I haven't noticed the white/pink strip of compression/artifacts anymore. I'll continue to monitor this and provide any feedback if it comes back. I suggest trying to provide better cooling for your GPU for now and see if that helps. Try playing with the computer case cover off to temporarily improve the airflow to your GPU as a short-term check.
