White horizontal stripe across screen while using link

Headset seems to work fine stand-alone.  I use the headset with IRacing, and often (not always) get a translucent horizontal stripe across the screen after about 15 minutes or so.  It doesn't feel like the headset is overheating.  This doesn't show up on the screen mirror on PC, or if I "mirror" with the debug tool.  Is this likely a failing display or is there somewhere else I should look?

UPDATE: POSSIBLE WORKAROUND/FIX USING REGISTRY EDITOR

As I theorized above, this issue does NOT occur for those who use Air Link. Air Link uses HEVC and uses 1 slice for its encoding, whereas wired Link uses H.264 and 5 slices for encoding. Whenever the white bar issue occurs, it is very likely the final 5th slice experiencing an error in the encoding. If you pay close attention when this occurs, you will likely notice it only occurs in the bottom slice of the screen.

To use this workaround, open Command Prompt and use the following:

  • reg add "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Oculus\RemoteHeadset" /v "numSlices" /t REG_DWORD /d "1" /f

I will be experimenting with this for the next few weeks to make sure  I do not get the white bar issue!

Original Post on REVISITED thread:

I have noticed that this is related to the horizontal encoding slices that are visible only through the Link Cable. A very easy stopgap solution would be to offer a toggle in the OculusDebugTool that allows us to turn OFF these encoding slices. Additionally, the encoding slices do not appear with Air Link and thus the issue has almost never occurred wirelessly according to both personal experience and these threads.

Is this the same problem that I'm having? I have the lower end having different contrast than the rest. It starts normal then after 25 sec the contrast gets brighter and brighter. I can also see the windows taskbar below. It happens with every single app I launch with the pcvr link cable. It's not there with the native quests apps. This photo is through the lens.

Yes it is this problem.

Never had the Windows taskbar though, but this might be a very important detail ! I will forward it to support. (please create a support ticket aswell)

I can share the video as well which is showing very clearly the fault.

perfect, thank you. Having Windows taskbar show below could be the reason why it's always an horizontal band,  having the exactly same size.

I don't know how OVR service works internally, but a potential explanation would be that OVR Service wrongly captures a DX layer on top of games (which would be Windows taskbar layer).

I hope this it, because it would be quite easy to fix.

Even if it is an easy fix, they don't care about it. Oculus does not give a single **bleep** about this issue.

FYI

If you did not buy your game from the Oculus Experiences Store you are out of luck for facebook to help. Here is a clip of the support response:

I can appreciate your concern and want to expand your experiences in VR. However, Resident Evil Village and several of those games mentioned in Oculus Forum thread you kindly provided are not available on the Oculus Experiences Store, which means they have not been tested to work with our headsets and are not guaranteed to be optimized.

I know that this is not the news you want to hear, but if you're experiencing an issue with a SteamVR game, please reach out to their support team and they may be able to help you either reach the developer or get the game running smoothly. "

Well at least for me this happens with every game I launch through the oculus link regardless if it's oculus experience or not.  In fact, it starts immediately at oculus home in PCVR.

These are the problems I'm getting since v28. ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

1. White horizontal stripe

This problem happens when I use wired Link with higher than encode resolutio 3664 (on debug tool). Render resolution & bitrate aren't matter. And when this problem happens, the bottom edge of the image becomes strange.

2. Mismatch of encode resolution

After v28, actual encode resolution is different from setting of debug tool on both wired Link & Air Link.

(Wired Link)

3664 on debug tool, actual encode resolution is 3680.

4000 on debug tool, actual encode resolution is 4000.

4010 -> 4032

4030 -> 4032

4033 -> 4032

(Air Link)

3664 on debug tool, actual encode resolution is 3680.

4000 on debug tool, actual encode resolution is 4000.

4030 -> 4032

4040 -> 4064

Before v28, there isn't this problem. These values were always the same.

3. Max encode resolution became lower

After v28, max encode resolution width of wired Link is only 4032. Before v28, it was 4080. And max encode resolution of Air Link is only 4064.

4. Distortion curvature is strange.

Default

Low

High

As you can see, default & high are the same. I don't know which one is bugged. This is the same on Air Link.

This thread is moving ahead quite well, thanks guys. For Oculus to have maximum infos, I suggest anyone having this issue to :

- submit a support ticket

- put a link to this thread in the ticket

Such a procedure will maximize the chances to have an official tech support participate in this thread, and request all the necessary infos.

Good evening, first forgive my level of English, I am Spanish, I do not know English and this comes directly from a translator.

Like you, I have been with the bug for 1 week, white stripe at the bottom of the image.
I use the Quest 2 for iRacing and after 5 minutes of racing I always got the bug.

Download the latest NVIDIA drivers today.
Also modify the 3D configuration parameters for iRacing from the Nvidia control panel application.
All default parameters.

Leave all the Oculus Debug Tool parameters as they came by default.

I have played 3 races in a row of about 45 minutes each and not a single problem.
It had been a week that the problem was 100% of the runs at 5 minutes.

I do not know which of the changes I fix, before it worked with the Nvidia control panel configuration, and with those drivers, it also worked by changing the values โ€‹โ€‹of Oculus Debug Tool.

Now it works well. I have been able to change the parameters of the Oculus Debug Tool and it still works.
I have not touched the Nvidia parameters again, they remain by default.

Try and tell me, hopefully you can fix it as it seems my Oculus Quest 2 was fixed, I've been wanting to throw them against the wall for a week.

Greetings, I hope everything is solved.

V32 did NOT solved this issue for me.

I had it for the first time at the end of January and V24, and no matter what I do, I never managed to get rid of it.

After buying a brand new computer, several fresh W10 install, everything set by default, this **bleep** stripe is alway there after a fews minutes in Dirt Rally 2.0.

The only thing I can do, is to NOT buying anything more on the Oculus store, because I will replace the Quest 2 as soon as a serious competitor puts a product on sale.

So disappointed with the attitude of Oculus towards this problem, thats incredible !
