Meta Quest Link Update: Link Launch Issue Resolved

Hi everyone,
We recently identified an issue with Meta Quest Link unable to launch which caused users to be stuck in the app launch loading screen. We’ve now released an update that should resolve this problem.
What’s changed:

  • The main issue is fixed, and you should be able to use Meta Quest Link as expected.
  • Please note: For now, you won’t be able to see your hands in Dash. However, raycasts are visible, and you should be able to interact with games and other content as usual.

Thank you for your patience while we worked on this fix! If you continue to experience any issues, please let us know in the comments.

Hello, thanks for the update.
I can confirm that after fully uninstalling, cleaning everything, and reinstalling, the infinite loading issue in Meta Quest Link / PC Link is  resolved and the connection is working again.
However, my main issue is still not fixed: Hand Tracking (hands + controllers / multimodal) is still not working in PC Link like it did before. I urgently need this because I’m actively working on two projects that depend on multimodal hand tracking for development and testing.
Current situation:
PC Link connects normally and launches.
Hands do not appear in the Dash and Hand Tracking does not work (it used to work previously).
This blocks my workflow.
Could you please confirm:
1. Whether there is a fix/update in progress specifically for Hand Tracking / multimodal in PC Link?
2. Whether there is any official workaround to restore the previous behavior (e.g., a specific Meta Quest Link version, headset/app setting, PTC channel, etc.)?
3. If this is a known issue in the current release, and what the status/ETA is?
If needed, I can provide my Meta Quest Link version, headset OS version, Windows/GPU specs, logs, and exact reproduction steps.
Thank you.

My Link cable is now working again as in, it lets me launch into the PC. However, I have changed no settings and when I go into VR mode in Msfs the whole thing is a choppy slideshow mess, to the point I can't actually do anything and need to quit out of it. I don't really use it for any other games so can't tell if it's just that game or all of them. Something is definitely not as it was a few days ago, when it ran butter smooth. Any ideas?

Hi Steve.Randall78,

Windows recently released a security update, and we believe it may be related to the streaming performance issues. We’re actively investigating and working to confirm the root cause.

To help us narrow this down, we’re looking to hear from anyone who:

  1. Had no issues over the past week, but recently started seeing frame drops or other streaming problems.
  2. If that’s you, could you please share your setup details?
  • GPU model / graphics configuration
  • Whether you’ve installed the recent Microsoft Windows security update -KB5074109

Thanks!

I have started seeing performance problems upon installing the v83.0.0.333.349 'fix'.

I do have KB5074109 installed, but have only experienced problems after installing the above Horizon link version. The previous version did not appear to have performance problems. although the KB5074109 update was already installed on 14/1.

I am using a 3080Ti GPU.

still having issues with trying to redownload the link app, it doesn't get out of 35% installation progress before crashing and telling me to restart the computer

It isn't working for me, and I believe I've had the update (about an hour ago).  It hasn't been working for around two days now.  When I try to go into Link it just goes into the "three dots screen" and stays there, and I get an error message notification in the taskbar.  It does work if I disconnect my PC from the internet as suggested elsewhere.

Thanks for your efforts.

I've updated it and the cable still doesn't work. I've had the Q3s for four days, and I haven't been able to use them for three of those days. If this doesn't change soon, I'm returning them. It's not normal for them to block the connection of a physical cable.

Link is working now but I cannot exit my Steam VR game because the Oculus button doesn't work now.

I understand your point, but based on my testing this issue does not appear to be related to the cable or to switching H.265/HEVC to H.264/AVC.
The problem started only after updating to runtime v83, so it looks like a regression either on the PC runtime side (Quest Link/PC Link) or on the headset runtime side.
To be very clear, I have two separate Unity projects:
One project using Meta SDK v71
One project using Meta SDK v83
Before the runtime update, both projects worked normally with multimodal (hands + controllers).
After updating to runtime v83:
The project using SDK v83 no longer has hand tracking (multimodal is broken).
The project using SDK v71 still works normally with both hand tracking and multimodal.
This strongly suggests the breakage is tied to the new v83 runtime behavior/compatibility, not bandwidth, cable type, or video encoding.
Could you please confirm if this is a known regression in runtime v83 affecting hand tracking / multimodal, and whether a fix or workaround is available (or planned)?

Hi everyone,

To help us investigate and resolve the remaining issues, could you please update your replies with the following details? This will help our QA and engineering teams better understand the root causes and work towards a fix.

1. Baseline Setup Information

  • PC Specs: (CPU, GPU, RAM, OS version)
  • Headset Model: (Quest 2, Quest 3, etc.)
  • Cable Details: (Type of cable, are you plugging into the front/back of the PC, using any adapters?)
  • Connection Method: (USB Link or Air Link)

2. If You’re Experiencing Crashes

  • Were you able to launch Quest Link at all?
  • Which apps or games were you running when the crash occurred?
  • Any error messages or crash logs you can share?

3. If You’re Experiencing Performance Issues

  • Did you adjust any graphics or bitrate settings before the update? If so, what were they?
  • Are your settings still the same after the update?
  • Is the issue happening with Air Link, USB Link, or both?
  • Describe the performance issue - and is it consistent? Does it normalize after a while? (e.g., stutter, frame drops, visual artifacts).

The more details you provide, the faster we can identify patterns and work on a solution. Thank you for your help and patience!

This is not the cable problem or PC spec or somthing else…  whatever  , . This is v83 meta Horizon app  PC issue  . That is the problem . Just give back  option for rolling to  v81 for PCVR where all was working nice with max bitrate 960 smooth and clear experience , and everything  will be fine , Please dont waste our time for things like this ….

Hi, thanks for the message. Here are the details from my side to help QA/engineering:
Baseline Setup Information
PC Specs: Alienware X17 R1, Intel i7-11800H, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD, GeForce RTX 3080, Windows 11 (latest updates installed).
Headset Model: Meta Quest 3
Cable Details: UGREEN USB 3.0 cable, connected directly to a rear USB port on the PC, no adapters.
Connection Method: Both USB Link and Air Link. For Air Link I use a dedicated router connected to the PC via Ethernet.
Crashes
Were you able to launch Quest Link at all? Yes. After a fully clean reinstall today, Quest Link / PC Link connects and launches again (the infinite loading issue is resolved on my end).
Which apps/games were running when the crash occurred? Unity. I’m a VR developer and I use Quest Link mainly for development/testing.
Any error messages or crash logs? No error messages and no crash logs that I can provide.
Performance Issues / Settings
Did you adjust any graphics or bitrate settings before the update? No.
Are your settings still the same after the update? Yes. My hardware and Unity project settings are unchanged compared to when everything was working.
Is the issue happening with Air Link, USB Link, or both? Both.
Describe the issue: This is not a performance issue on my side. The main remaining problem is Hand Tracking / multimodal (hands + controllers) not working. It started overnight: one day I was working normally with everything functioning perfectly, and the next day I turned on the PC to work and hand tracking in multimodal stopped working. This behavior is consistent and does not “normalize” after a while.
If you need any additional diagnostics (Quest Link version, headset OS/runtime version, logs from the Meta Quest Link app, reproduction steps), tell me exactly what to collect and I’ll provide it.
