Quest 1 not downloading anymore

Hi,

I'm still using my Quest 1 with 64GB storage capacity. I recently tried to download uninstalled games I purchased some time ago. These games (e.g. Shadow Point, Waltz of the Wizard) are still marked as compatible with my device. I've about 9 GB free space on my device, which should be enough space for these apps, but the games won't download. Turning on/off the Quest or the Wifi does not help. Clearing the App Data with Sidequest (com.oculus.ocms) also did not help.

When I try to install the status immediately switches back from queue to not installed. Any help would be appreciated. I fear to brick my device on a factory reset, since support isn't provided anymore an I'm not sure if any firmware update will be reinstalled after the reset.

Anonymousthanks for the link. I tried the version of the Oculus/Meta app. It connected with my device but the download and installation of the games mentioned above still did not work.

I've found a solution for the download of games/apps into my Quest 1. There is currently no factory reset necessary. But I found reddit post and a blog which may help on factory reset and update to the latest available firmware for Oculus Quest 1.

My working solution for downloading and installing the games mentioned in the openning post was the following (inspired by the post from rndn_2514)

    1. Created a new Meta account
    2. Added a new account/profile to my Oculus Quest 1
    3. Connected the device account/profile with the new Meta account (entered code shown in the device on the website being logged in with the new Meta account)
    4. Installation/setup process for the new account/profile within the device
    5. Switched back to the "old account" and enabled App-Sharing
    6. Switched back to the new account. Download and installation for the games  worked at this point.
    7. Finally started the games and they worked as expected

Meanwhile I also installed the games on my PC within the Meta Quest Link application just to be able to play them via Air Link. The download and installation of the apps on the device should not be affected by this, but I wanted to mention it here.  Don't know if this helped to solve my issues.

Another learning for my side is that I will backup all my apps/games on the Quest 1 via Sidequest.

Good news borealcat and n9yty !

I was able to download (and backup) my apps again, the Meta backend started working tonight.

And the errors doesn't appear anymore on the logcat. So that sustain our initial discovery.

Is it working for you ?

oculus_quest YES! πŸ™‚ You don't suppose that my multitude (and I mean MULTITUDE) of emails to Meta support finally got through to someone, do you?  LOL They keep giving canned answers and I keep pushing back. And lo and behold, someone finally flipped a switch on the backend to fix whatever was broken without any update to the Quest 1 headsets or firmware. Astonishing. πŸ™‚ (heavy on the sarcasm).

I just kicked off one random download, but it worked the first time so I am assuming that the problem is, at least at the moment, resolved. I don't know why my one random download would work and yours would work if they didn't really fix something, too much for it to just be coincidence.

It was a common effort in a way, as more users started to communicate the same technical details, the problem became more visible and more prioritary to solve.

Its true I did lots of emails too (at least 10), I think it was not a simple switch, I think they created then deployed a backend update, thats a significant effort, but a necessary effort.

And perhaps we ran out of luck as their support backend experienced a technical failure at the same time we started to contact them that increased the processing time of our request than 1 week I think, it's no big deal as the problem is solved now.

Another good news, I investigated by talking to other users and it seems the problem is solved for all download region across the world !

Now everything is up and running, it’s time to backup our apps using SideQuest.

Let's enjoy our Meta Quest 1 again πŸ™‚

I consider this issue is now resolved

Perfect closure to this is the support email I received this morning AFTER things had started working again:

Thank you for your continued patience as we address the issue concerning of  downloading the  last available versions of apps.

We regret to inform you that the device you are currently using has reached its end-of-life status. This means that it is no longer supported by our developers and will not receive any further updates or security patches.

As a result, we recommend that you refrain from installing or updating any applications on this device as they may no longer be compatible or secure. We understand that this may be disappointing news, but please rest assured that we are committed to providing you with the best possible service and support moving forward.

We kindly suggest considering upgrading to a newer device to ensure optimal performance and compatibility. Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

Perfect closure? No acknowledgement on their part that it's Meta's fault that the perfectly good Quest 1 device suffered a premature death, caused by their software updates? And their recommendation is to give them more money to buy a new device, and send your perfectly good device to a landfill, contributing to unnecessary e-waste? I would love to buy a Quest 3, but I can't morally do it, based on principles alone. Planned obsolescence should be illegal in the US and should involve hefty fines and prison sentences for those at that top of companies that engage in it. But that would be too smart for the US.
