(Resolved) Known Issue - V62/63 USB-C Debris/Water Warning

v62 has a big problem with USB port sensor (found the very same issue on my Q3 and the one of my wife)... when used with an extension cable (even if it is a quality cable) from time to time star showing the debris-water warning message. Of course there is no debris or water, just a nasty software false alarm.

Known Issue

Status: Fix rolling out in V64 - Public Release

Hey everyone! Back with another update. I got word from the team that we should start seeing improvements in the upcoming updates, however, they want to stray from promising any specific timeline for the fix just yet. I know everyone is still prepped for jumping back into their pop-up free VR experience, but this is the extent of information available to me at the moment. Hopefully I can find out and share more with you all soon! Thanks for remaining patient while the team works towards improvements!

Update (3/27/2024):

Hey everyone! After waiting patiently from the team for any updates I was able to share with you all, I just got confirmation that we should see a fix in the upcoming V64 build. I've tried to get word about a potential release for V64 & V64's PTC, but I haven't heard anything about it just yet. Be sure to keep an eye on the Announcements board, as that's the place we'll be posting about the PTC and Official releases.

If you continue to experience the error on a V64 build, please let me know! I'd also appreciate if you included your V64 software version number.

  • You can check in Quick Settings > Settings > Software Update under the Current Version Details section. The formatting should be 64.#.#.###.###.#########.

Update (4/5/2024):

Hey again! I'm glad to see that a lot of you are no longer having issues after the rollout of PTC's 64.0.0.419.370.583580230. After bringing more reports to our team, I was notified that the official fix hasn't shipped just yet, but it's a really good sign that improvements are being shown in the PTC builds! The official fix should be rolling out in the public release of the V64 build.

Thank you again for your patience, and please be on the lookout on our Blog or the Announcements board for when the public build is officially announced. Of course, I'll be notifying you all here as well once I find out more information!

Heads up, those of you in EU: support is telling me that they can’t refund the quest 3 if it has been purchased more than 30 days ago. This is bull**bleep** and illegal. In the EU we have two years warranty. In Spain we have 3 years warranty. Contact me here or on Twitter with the same username if they tell you the same lie.

bu the way as it stands it’s also false advertising because PCVR is not possible with the device as is

Oh, you are correct. I have a pink haired furry as a profile picture.
It is very helpful for other ppl to point this out. Thank you for your service.

would you consider your messages here today helpful to the community of users who are being systematically ignored?

how professional is it that they haven’t reproduced the error yet, after almost a month?

there was an update to v63 PTC yesterday, it did not fix the bug. There was an update before that, from v62 to v63. It also did not fix the bug. Does it feel like this is a priority?

Well i have told you how to workaround this issue.
Yet you - sir - seem to be having a little tantrum over a bug.
You've been told multiple times that the issue is known, being worked on
and even been given a temp solution. And here we are. Maybe its time for bed?

Fix the debris error. Fix the debris error. Fix the debris error. Fix the debris error. Fix the debris error. Fix the debris error.

Fix the debris error. Fix the debris error. Fix the debris error.

Get it through your thick heads yet?

Did you give it a try and it did not work out for you?
Well that sucks. 3 friends of mine confirmed my method working flawless.
Are you on Quest 2 or 3? Were on the 3.

so this is what customer support is with Meta. To other users reading, see my previous replies for an explanation of why this doesn’t work.

Alrighty. I tested my workaround a little more and turns out all i gotta do it click the on/off button off and on again and its all good.

So what happens when clicking the on/off button doesn't get you back in? In my case I just have a black screen. When I press the on/off button it changes from light black to really black.

And does it stop the error from popping up?

My quest is away being replaced/repaired. The only option I think is that they revert the FW to v60. As someone else has mentioned - the easy fix is to disable the warning, but meta don’t care…they already have your money

"The only option I think is that they revert the FW to v60. As someone else has mentioned - the easy fix is to disable the warning, but meta don’t care…they already have your money"

I can do that myself.

And they have our money for now. We should start a lawsuit.

i've been told it's not possible to revert to firmware v60, can someone confirm please?

How do u roll back to v60??

Participant

Insane this issue is still on going. How hard can it be to disable the message as a hotfix at least?

Participant
February 29, 2024

it is absurd, but if they let us disable the warnings, it may actually fry our usb ports this time instead of just a false alarm.

it may also be a real protection from another mistake of theirs that can actually fry our boards. so i won't ask them to "just disable a warning".

but why no one is contacting us for info to reproduce the errors? have the engineers been able to trigger the same thing in their lab yet? what's taking so long for them to fix an apparent blocker issue?

are they ready to create even more angry customers?

i m really tired of living with half a product in my hand for 3 weeks

that's what i was thinking but if it was safe on v60 why wouldn't it be safe now? anyway, i feel the same way, on the rest of your points.
