(Resolved) Known Issue - V62/63 USB-C Debris/Water Warning

v62 has a big problem with USB port sensor (found the very same issue on my Q3 and the one of my wife)... when used with an extension cable (even if it is a quality cable) from time to time star showing the debris-water warning message. Of course there is no debris or water, just a nasty software false alarm.

Known Issue

Status: Fix rolling out in V64 - Public Release

Hey everyone! Back with another update. I got word from the team that we should start seeing improvements in the upcoming updates, however, they want to stray from promising any specific timeline for the fix just yet. I know everyone is still prepped for jumping back into their pop-up free VR experience, but this is the extent of information available to me at the moment. Hopefully I can find out and share more with you all soon! Thanks for remaining patient while the team works towards improvements!

Update (3/27/2024):

Hey everyone! After waiting patiently from the team for any updates I was able to share with you all, I just got confirmation that we should see a fix in the upcoming V64 build. I've tried to get word about a potential release for V64 & V64's PTC, but I haven't heard anything about it just yet. Be sure to keep an eye on the Announcements board, as that's the place we'll be posting about the PTC and Official releases.

If you continue to experience the error on a V64 build, please let me know! I'd also appreciate if you included your V64 software version number.

  • You can check in Quick Settings > Settings > Software Update under the Current Version Details section. The formatting should be 64.#.#.###.###.#########.

Update (4/5/2024):

Hey again! I'm glad to see that a lot of you are no longer having issues after the rollout of PTC's 64.0.0.419.370.583580230. After bringing more reports to our team, I was notified that the official fix hasn't shipped just yet, but it's a really good sign that improvements are being shown in the PTC builds! The official fix should be rolling out in the public release of the V64 build.

Thank you again for your patience, and please be on the lookout on our Blog or the Announcements board for when the public build is officially announced. Of course, I'll be notifying you all here as well once I find out more information!

Very surprised they haven't fixed this by v63.  Not sure what to do...call customer service?  What the heck are they going to do...have me send it back in?

Just like with v62 they knew of the debris error yet they still released it. Now the same thing with v63.

Just face it they have our money. They don't care.

I have exactly the same problem. Raised a ticket with Meta and now isn't that painful. I get a response from a person/bot. I reply with results and then get another response from a different person/bot detailing basically the same as the first person/bot. With slight variations this has happened for several days now with 4 different Meta people/bots. Still no solution as everyone has mentioned.

Yep they pretend to help you but they don't actually help. They are just dragging out the time until the warranty runs out. At which point they'll have no obligation to help anyone.

This is not a conspiracy theory. I'm just following it through to its logical conclusion.

So I guess Meta just breaks core functionality of the headset in a forced update and then refuses to address it. Cool.

And it's funny because all the answers from the support agent so far are like "oopsie uwu our coding monkeys are working VERY HAWD on fixing this issue!!! I know u racing fans are excited to get back into PCVR!!! owo!!!" as if breaking core functionality on a €550 product for months was something to joke about rather than a very serious problem.

Yea they aren't I bet. They're probably laughing at us.

How many people are using third party cable with Separate Charging Port are having USB-C Debris/Water Warning?

One here....and I've also seen people state the issue also affects those with the 'official' exhorbitantly priced cable (maybe to a lesser extent?) AND even those just using the included charger/cable!

Currently having the same issue as others on here with the water debris warning.
Have managed to temporarily fix the problem by cleaning the USB port with an air blower and keeping the extension cable plugged in. Managed to have two full evenings without the warning. Darent remove the cable for now as the issue has vanished, not saying this is fixed more of a plaster but may work for others, fingers crossed

I got this issue yesteryday, but eventually figured out that in my case, it was actually the computer side connection where the cable connection had got loose (just a bit) and that triggered the warning on the headset.

The warning message was really misleading by saying there is debris on the headset charging port, as it clearly can be also in the computer end of the cable. So my suggestion for the developers is to change the warning text to also take this into account that a) the warning can trigger from cable connect being a loose too and not just from debris/liquid b) the problem can be also at the other end of the cable..

Have you had the warning since ?

Nope. It was clearly caused by that.

I had issues with the connection before, if the computer end had got just a was just little bit loose but never got that message about, it just couldn't locate the computer when it happened.

ps. this is with the official cable too.

I got the same error last night. Nothing was exposed to water.

Used the charger and cable from second headset and it was working. Made a report today.

Hope they will replace the charger and cable.
