(Resolved) Known Issue - V62/63 USB-C Debris/Water Warning

v62 has a big problem with USB port sensor (found the very same issue on my Q3 and the one of my wife)... when used with an extension cable (even if it is a quality cable) from time to time star showing the debris-water warning message. Of course there is no debris or water, just a nasty software false alarm.

Known Issue

Status: Fix rolling out in V64 - Public Release

Hey everyone! Back with another update. I got word from the team that we should start seeing improvements in the upcoming updates, however, they want to stray from promising any specific timeline for the fix just yet. I know everyone is still prepped for jumping back into their pop-up free VR experience, but this is the extent of information available to me at the moment. Hopefully I can find out and share more with you all soon! Thanks for remaining patient while the team works towards improvements!

Update (3/27/2024):

Hey everyone! After waiting patiently from the team for any updates I was able to share with you all, I just got confirmation that we should see a fix in the upcoming V64 build. I've tried to get word about a potential release for V64 & V64's PTC, but I haven't heard anything about it just yet. Be sure to keep an eye on the Announcements board, as that's the place we'll be posting about the PTC and Official releases.

If you continue to experience the error on a V64 build, please let me know! I'd also appreciate if you included your V64 software version number.

  • You can check in Quick Settings > Settings > Software Update under the Current Version Details section. The formatting should be 64.#.#.###.###.#########.

Update (4/5/2024):

Hey again! I'm glad to see that a lot of you are no longer having issues after the rollout of PTC's 64.0.0.419.370.583580230. After bringing more reports to our team, I was notified that the official fix hasn't shipped just yet, but it's a really good sign that improvements are being shown in the PTC builds! The official fix should be rolling out in the public release of the V64 build.

Thank you again for your patience, and please be on the lookout on our Blog or the Announcements board for when the public build is officially announced. Of course, I'll be notifying you all here as well once I find out more information!

there is no option to disable it, anyway you can enable beta testing on the pc app, and via mobile app for the headset. make sure that the downloaded version is v64.

Over 850 replies and yet they're still ignoring the impact of this **bleep** error. It's literally turns your device to a brick. 1.24 trillion worth company? WHAT A XXXXING JOKE.

actually they are working on it and it is indeed, for some users on experimentals versions, already solved.

I would be interested to find out if anyone else tries using a powered USB hub as a workaround and if it works for you.  Might be an interesting data point.  Since adding that into the mix, I've had a perfect connection with no water/dirt warnings or any other problems.  Im on v63.

A quick update. I played this weekend, and the message keeps popping up, destroying my SR in iRacing.

So, I’ll put my Quest 3 on the shelf and use the Quest 2 instead. Until we have something definitive.

I'm on version V64 with both, on the Headset and the Meta Link app.

Nothing to do about it. I'll keep reading you guys.

I came here to see if anyone else is experiencing this and if meta is completely shutting off support for battery straps. Recently I’ve been getting notifications that my headset is charging slower and I took it as a hint that meta didn’t like that I was using a battery head strap while I was playing. Recently though, I’ve been getting pop ups from meta that say they’ve completely turned off my charging port, not allowing me to charge my headset at all. Saying that there’s “liquid” inside. But conveniently, it only popped up when I had my charging port in from the head strap. And it also conveniently renders the head strap useless. I put the dots together and figured it was meta’s petty way of showing how much they don’t support battery head straps. Also if you’re thinking I’m just over superstitious and my charging port is really filled with liquid, trust me, I’ve checked everything and even followed exactly what it told me to do if the issue persists. It’s only when it’s plugged in and the charging port is cleaner than a brand new one.

Finally got the update earlier today and at first it seemed promising.  Unplugged and replugged in my cable (official quest link fibre cable) and all seemed good with no errors popping up.

The streaming quality / capability seems to have dropped massively though and using immersed I have had to turn the stream quality right down.  It also crashes regularly and loses connection which it did not do before (when it worked it at least worked well).

Also I went to turn off 120hz display setting as that had helped me previously get better results but then I noticed it seems to have disappeared? Anyone know what happened to that option?

V64 just arrived so will now test it.

I've been playing all weekend now and haven't seen another error message!

I have no problem with speed, I use USB Ethernet. (VD with full 500mbps)

The same. Not a single problem all weekend.

Tested with a cable as well as wifi.

Laptop is entirely wireless with Wifi6E connection, and both cabled and wired worked flawlessly for me.

I did check Quest Link and had no problems, but the bulk of my time was with Virtual Desktop.

Finally got v64 overnight after enabling/disabling PTC for the past week.  Put the headset on this morning and the two controllers updated, then I rebooted.  This is the VERY FIRST TIME I have rebooted and not received the stupid popup on boot (without even a cable plugged in).  Fingers crossed it stays this way. Nearly 2 months Meta!!!!    Gonna be honest, this is my first meta headset (Q3) and before I decided to go with Meta, I read a ton on  Reddit about the Q2 and previous versions. All I saw was people complaining about updates breaking things or the headset itself having strange problems.  I went with the Q3 anyway thinking they'll get their sh*t together. I am now convinced they haven't and they won't, and the next headset I purchase will most likely not be by this company.  2 MONTHS OF THIS CR*P FROM A KNOWN ISSUE!   Y'all, seriously. Don't expect this to be the last trouble you have. I sure don't.  For me, it's somewhat minor because I mainly use my headset to develop on and I don't do multiplayer games so much, but dang it sure is annoying to have to click this button every 5 minutes. I hope I never see that message again. It became such a common occurrence that I started dreaming about it.

Hey everyone! It's been about a week since PTC rollouts started for V64, so I wanted to check back in with everyone. It looks like it's about a 50/50 split between those still effected and those who have reported the update resolving their issue. I wanted to re-confirm version numbers with everyone, so that I can bring this info back to the team to look into.

  • Is the Debris/Water warning issue resolved for you, or are you still effected?
  • Can you confirm the current V64 build on your headset?
    • You can check in Quick Settings > Settings > Software Update under the Current Version Details section. The formatting should be 64.#.#.###.###.#########.
  • Can you confirm the current V64 build on your Meta Quest Link app?
  • Which cable is giving you this error?
    • A third-party cable or an official Meta Quest cable (Link/Charger)?

I'm glad progress is being made towards the issue, and that a portion of you are able to play again—warning free! I appreciate everyone's patience as we continue to dial in on further reports after V64 PTC's initial release, and I'll be sure to pass along any reports posted to the team as they come in.
