USB stick with OTG Adapter on Oculus Quest 2

Hi Guys,
I've recently bought an Oculus Quest 2 64 GB and currently trying to watch videos on my USB Stick via Big Screen and Pigasus VR Media Player on the headset. I've got an USB-C to USB 3.0 OTG adapter which I use to connect the USB stick to the headset. I've already formatted the filetype on my USB Stick to FAT32 as I'm aware that's the only USB filetype currently supported by Oculus Quest. When I connect the USB stick to the headset via the adapter, the headset recognizes that I've connected something as I hear a sound but then I'm unable to find the USB stick on any of the apps. I've tried following instructions on the Oculus support page which states that I should find 'Connect media' on Oculus Gallery but the app is no longer available on Quest 2. Are USB sticks supported on the Quest 2 or not? If yes, what are the instructions for accessing USB storage on the Quest 2? Any guidance on this would be greatly appreciated as one of the reasons I got the headset was to watch 3D movies on the go as I thought the Quest headsets supported media playback via USB. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Oculus has disabled usb storage for both the quest 1 and the quest 2.  There is a very complicated workaround for it but you are probably better off either transferring the content directly to the headset when you want to watch it or setting up some kind of media server on your PC.

I just tried this too, used a type C to regular USB type A socket and connected an SDHC card reader with a card in it. Heard the sound of something being connected.

so I side-loaded a file explorer and it can see the USB stick as a device but it cannot open the storage device at all, it's greyed out, so it's quite possibly something basic like a permissions issue.

Sorry to revive an old thread but Im dealing with this same issue. Would you mind sharing with me the app you sideloaded? I have tons of media i would like to watch but dont want to load it all on the headset either. Thank you...

I  used sidequest to load Total Commander Total Commander for Android - APK Download (apkpure.com)

I then ran total commander from the apps list (Unknow Apps) and was able to see an icon for USB drive. However I was using a 64gb drive and it would not open. Am going to try a 16gb fat32 micro SD card tonight with a micro SD to USBC connector. We will see if that works.

oh, I have an OQ1, but I can't imagine the system configurations on udev or selinux are any different.

Could you please share a link to the mentioned "very complicated workaround". Trying it on Quest 2 and I travel a lot, would like to take some of my movies with me.
Thank you

Sideload ES file explorer  it will give you access to your flash drive and also has the added bonus of including a video player

I use it myself tested

People use side-loaded CX Explorer to do this job, but for me there are several problems:

1. It cannot use my favorite players like Sky Box or DeoVR.

2. The only USB-C port was used for storage, then soon the Quest 2 will run out of power when watching the movie.

3. You need to learn how to do the side-loading.

My solution is a little more complicated, but it fix all the problems above. It involves your Android cellphone, though. If you are using an iPhone, I don't know, but surely you can figure it out.

1. Put all your movies in a SD card, and insert it into the USB-C reader.

2. Plug the reader into your Android cellphone, you will have an extra storage drive.

3. Turn on the hotspot feature in your cellphone, and make Quest 2 connect to this hotspot.

4. Install and run a program called "SMB Server", or something similar. Find the movie folder in the storage drive and share the folder. Then start the SMB server. Remember the server IP and port.

5. Run Sky Box in Quest 2, put in the server ip and port manually if it cannot find it. The movie folder should show up.

6. Enjoy the movies in Sky Box. If Quest 2 is running out of juice, simply plug in a USB-C powerbank.

Hello Friend,

seems very elegant solution. I've conected to hotspot, but 4. and 5. point not so clear. Sky Box expecting IP addres for Samba, but how shoul I know? Many thanks in advance (I've got Oculus 3, but in this case I suppose doesn't matter)

There is now an App Labs app called 4XVR that takes care all of the heavy lifting for you. It's fairly pricy ($30) but is worth it to avoid all the other nonsense and it's organized in a way that I find pretty useful. It took me a minute to learn it's feature set but now I look forward to taking my headset and libraries of movies with me on trips.

Easiest method I found to watch movies is dlna server installed on phone you may need to look for it from somewhere like apkpure as Google app store seems to have trouble with it and newer phones After sideload it was great and very easy to set up after I had it setup I connected to it with the skybox media player

Hi

i have connected a USB-C flash disk to the Oculus 2. You can access the media either using one of the following apps:

moon player

sky box.

once u open the app if it doesn’t recognise the flash disc immediately, remove and reinsert the flash drive.
I too use the flash drive to watch 3D movies. Viewing is great.

hope this helps.

This thread is FIVE years old. This issue has been resolved 3 years ago from a software update. No other information is needed.
