Question

V76 Broke Link

Anyone else?

Exact same setup as was working a few days ago. (using USBA-USBC cable). Updated to v76.  Now it just keeps rapidly connecting and disconnecting, and hand tracking starts and stops working.

I did a factory reset for any Meta support staff that would like to ask.

It is absolutely ridiculous that there isn't a way to rollback the app version. I tried installing V74, but it does not work. Itjust refuses to leave version V76.

I sent another report. There isn't a lot of detail to provide however. It worked flawlessly before and now it doesnt. Wired link gives the same effect as when you have turned up the graphics higher than your PC can handle, only everything is at default settings in the app.

I have isolated the issue on my end to the H.265 codec, or changes to it that were introduced with the update. Using the Oculus debug tools I ran a 500mbit connection using H.265 with slicing off. Now I can only run it at 200mbits max. Anything higher causes said issues. Now back to H.264 at 600mbits without issues. I will test it in gaming to see whether I come across other problems.

Submitted a second bug report just now.  I'm getting disconnected within seconds using the USB 3.2 10Gbps Type A port at 350 Mbps encode bitrate.  I reinstalled the PC Link app.  It had worked without disconnecting at 350 Mbps encode bitrate on that USB port running a game previously.  Link USB test said it is USB 3 with 2.9 Gbps.

Interesting.  In doing testing, it does seem like it's the USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports that have the quick disconnects or instability in USB testing. [USBA ports is what I am referring to throughout, not USBC]

I have a Strix z790a-Wifi and the rear USB 3.2 gen 2 ports are the ones that have the issue, while the USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports do not have issues. I tried a new cable too (USBA to USBC, 16ft).

The original cable I was using seems to work okay now in the Gen 1 port. It worked fine in the Gen 2 port until the recent updates.

The front panel connectors are USB 3.2 Gen 1 and seem to work fine as well.

Thanks Xypheron it looks like the problem is connected with USB 3.2 Gen 2.  I tried a USB 3.2 Gen 1 5Gbps Type A port with Encode bitrate 700 Mbps now (I just tried 700 Mbps nothing else) and the Link cable (with adapter) works fine with that.

I had performance issues with USB 3.2 Gen 2 20Gbps Type C starting with version 76.  The USB 3.2 Gen 2 10Gbps Type A worked at 350 Mbps but after a few days it developed a connection issue.

With the USB 3.2 Gen 1 I gamed for a few hours today and restarted and it still works so hopefully it stays good 🙄  I have a (MSI MAG X670e Tomahawk wifi), 7800x3d and 7900 xtx.

Im still having all sorts of problems.

Initially after the 76 update, a full reinstall of the link software was required after every system boot - and everything then worked as normal. This is still the case... except everything is not normal

Today, i went to play iracing, had to repair link software as usual first. All was normal, except it didnt actually boot into iracing  - was stuck in desktop mode

Reinstalled and rebooted etc and then i notice link is different with a blue spacey theme - except it just has 3 loading dots and doesnt load

Then i rebooted and re-installed etc and i got the new theme for a second and then into the white abyss as per what used to be normal, until then screen went black... the sound faded out and nothing

Seems to be a slightly different experience every time.

    im so done!

This is ridiculous. I have the same problem. PC gaming via the link cable has become erratic and non functional. This is unbelievable! What is Meta doing. I have tried everything and meta support are scratching their heads. I have tried two different computers and it's the same problem. Won't link to pc via the link cable. Ridiculous. Reinstalled app. Reset PC. It is the meta link app that is the problem. Previous versions much more stable. Does anyone know if Meta are aware if this?

I may have found a possible solution to at least my issue
1: Make sure your headset is fully up to date, check just to make sure - I'm on v77 as of yesterday
2: Repair the meta link pc app, a simple reinstall of it doesn't work - this will likely force your app to update (this is a good thing, as i suspect the mismatch in versions may be causing this, not 100% sure tho)

Mind you, this only works for me, and I'm using a USB 3.0 cable, not AirLink or Virtual Desktop.
    Good luck, everyone!
