Adobe AIR- Stage3D Integration - Away3D?

Wondering what would be involved to support the rift in Adobe AIR. AIR allows for "Native Extensions" essentially native C/C++ code that can be packaged and used inside an AIR application. I don't have any real experience developing my own though.

There are a lot of 3D engines for AIR already in the market (Flare 3D, Minko, etc..) but Away3D is endorsed by Adobe and is open source so it seems like a good fit. There's already a discussion on the forums about Rift here: http://away3d.com/forum/viewthread/3286/

Wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this / experience with AIR native extensions that could help implement

I totally agree with the popularity of using AIR, also using AIR means targeting something like Ouya would be easily possible.

I know! The OUYA support and upcoming GamePad support will make it a very viable platform.

I really wish more people knew about it. AS3 is awesome to program in. Unity folks could easily pick it up considering its so syntactically similar to C#.

I'm willing to help you guys, but it will take some time before I will get my copy of Oculus.

I can provide Windows support, if you won't manage to do it earlier. I've read the SDK docs and it doesn't look to be a complicated thing.

This sounds cool, and I imagine there is a huge community of Flash developers that may be interested in this.

Hi All, I am definitely interested in some R&D hours into making this work through AIR.

I just ordered my kit today and will start to dig into the SDK to see what's there. Hopefully mine will arrive next week :D

I have set to watch and hopefully contribute to the github project.

I hate to rain on your parade but the shipping is so backed up it will probably be months before you get yours :/

They've shipped less than 4,000 units so far and the backlog is up to 17,000 (these figures are pulled from the internet but likely represent the situation)

I'm order #8000 and I'm still waiting for mine :(

Has anyone made any headway on an Away3D integration? Please PM me or email me at jonathan.hart@gmail.com and we can collaborate!

    Hi Everybody,

I'm looking forward receiving my Rift (46xxx), in the meanwhile i'd like to set up a test project for when somebody smarter then me actually start creating the ANE. (i tried but got totally discouraged starting Visual Studio after 10 years of not using it, might give it another try though if nobody jumps in)

What are you guys mainly using as IDE? I would like to use FlashDevelop as i feel (on pc atleast) it's the fastest and much more stable then FlashBuilder.

What kind of a demo game would be suited to test the ANE? i personally would love to make a small Space sim. a simple cockpit, looking around in space, shooting enemy ships... a bit like the EVR demo or Ryan Evans unity based "First Law"

    Any thoughts?

trying to wade to the horror that is Adobe's documentation on ANE's

got these resources that could prove useful:

a github resource of the Kinect ANE (same kind of setup is required for this project)
    https://github.com/AS3NUI/airkinect-2-core/tree/dev
It contains all the pieces of the puzzle i guess.

The pdf on how to create ANE's including the C part
