Anybody with a Rift and GTX Titan or AMD equivalent

I am putting together a simulation world for training and note the world I am using is totally maxing out my GTX660ti and in certain parts of the vr world I am only getting a few frames per second whilst in others it is ok. Whilst I know I could cull some details, I would rather upgrade my system. The Tuscanny demos run great on my system but I need this world to run.

So if anybody out there has a Titan and they are interested in trying the test to see fps they get can they pm me please.

Thanks.

Fantastic response, thanks for all of the feedback. I need to plan my spending because I want to buy Unity 4 and decide whether I upgrade my desktop or by a new MacBook which I hope will have a gtx680m on board in June.

Thanks for the great feedback and testing and as I am new to Unity I will look into the memory leaks.

I am learning the Physics side now and next version will have this in it with more interaction.

I think I will build my App Store onto a prefab object which can be used in any Unity project.

    Again, many thanks.

I've got a machine with (2) GTX Titans, and a machine with (2) GTX 680's...

both are running i7 3770k's overclocked to 4.5ghz on H100 coolers, both on intel extreme boards, both 32GB's of RAM, and running OS on 256GB Samsung solid state drives, which extra terabyte drives for games/apps/data. all running latest updates and latest NVidia drivers.

I have a oculus (albeit some minor technical issues with it that I'm trying to get resolved), and if you need some titan or titan SLI testing, I'd be more than happy to help :)

should blast whatever we throw at it...

Holy fu.. How are you finding the Titans?

Not sure what you mean? Found both of them on Amazon.com through one of their resellers, both are EVGA GTX TITAN 6GB Superclocked.... strangely enough, they shipped one regular box SC, and one signature box SC... they were like $1100 a piece.

All sorts of places over the web selling them... though I do notice newegg is usually out of stock (prolly cus its the first place people look)

Heck, my buddy bought three of them off ebay, each slightly used. They have transferable warranty through EVGA (a great peace of mind), but his all arrived like new... guess someone bought them, tested them, and then sold them.

I was about to buy (2) GTX 690's... for $950 a piece, but I'm a wee bit skeptical of dual-gpu cards (heating, size, microstutter, driver issues, etc) and its limited to 2GB's of VRAM (you technically have 4gb's on the card, but 2GB per GPU, and since the 690 runs in SLI mode to get its dual gpu performance, your only getting 2GB's actual VRAM... the other 2GB's, like any SLI cards, is mirrored from the other 2GB;s, and does not go to your total allocated amount of VRAM)

The titans themselves are 50 to 75% faster than a single GTX680, and only 10 to 20% slower than a dualgpu card like the 690 or radeon 7990. Pretty awesome a single gpu card is nearly as beefy as it's dual GPU brethren :)

    VREXPERIENCE:
My Titans are slamming your demo. Both in SLI and single card mode.... 60fps+ constant @ 2560x1600

So are the 680's. In single card, it does drop down into the high 40/low 50's~fps range for a bit and SLI mode it maintains 60fps @ 2560x1600

In fact there is no visual framerate difference (course you notice no difference with SLI'd 680's and SLI'd Titans in any game even at 2560x1600 until you start upping MSAA past 4x, then the titans take the lead). Only real difference you'd seen between either sets of these cards in SLI is in VRAM.... some games are starting to tip over 2GB's of VRAM with everything maxed out, so then you'll start to see VRAM stutter on the 680's (regardless of its SLI or not)

EDIT: and I just realized I left 2xMSAA on in my driver control panel on the titans, prolly the 680 system too...

How are you finding them as in terms of performance!? :P

Titans? Best cards I've ever owned. Super quiet, stays great temps even under stress, look sexy... and LOTS of CUDA cores and VRAM on a single GPU. And they aren't as power hungry as a 690.

Of course, every generation of card I've ever owned I call "the best cards ive ever owned".

Like I said in my above post... one is 50% to 75~80% faster (depending on game/app) than a single gtx680 and have no vram worries.

Now, I'll be perfectly honest with you.... I notice no framerate difference ingame vs. my gtx680's in SLI... unless the game start going over 2GB's of VRAM (which I can only think of a couple, including crisis 3) and that's just barely. Then you see a vram microstutter on the 680's.

Of course, I notice no visual framerate difference between a single titan (when I turn off my SLI) and SLI 680's... so you can see it's keeping up well even as a single card. A single 680, on the other hand, yeah, I can kind of make it chug at 2560x1600 with everything maxed and any MSAA higher than 2x on newer dx11 games.

Technically, SLI'd 680's will be a few frames faster than a single 690 card in most apps/games... if that's any form of comparsion for you.

And I apologize for derailing this thread on a topic of the 680's vs. titans, VRExperience... I'll try to keep it more on topic going forward :) Although I'd really like to know what kind of cards temps Cyberreality is seeing on that 690... heard some of the recent models keep a lot cooler?

i have a gtx 550 Ti and i ran the demo without the rift (the oculus world C+ one) and i ran into no problems. the GTX 660 card i imagine should be able to handle it just fine whats your processer? you shoudnt need to have to upgrade to a titan to run the Rift. thats a bit excess the titan is over 1,000 bucks. Maybe consider resinstalling windows and backing up things if your getting low peformance might help?

Yeah, definitely no need for a titan at 1280x800 res of the dev kit... would be tremendous overkill. Even a 680/670 would be overkill. I agree, that 660 should be able to handle it fine.

I have a 690 and I love it. I have not had any issues with stuttering due to SLI. I would be happy to test it out for you.
